I pull into school at 6:45 on Monday after a long weekend of avoiding my mother. My father had called twice  on Saturday and he was not giving up anytime soon. He could not seem to get it through his thick skull that I had no desire to spend time with him. He left us 11 years ago and even the thought of his face disgusts me. He had his chance and he left Raya and I without a second thought. He waited 11 years to contact us and guess what, he's 11 years too late.
I push all thoughts of him out of my mind as I walk through the side door to the band room, mentally preparing myself for todays challenge, dealing with a sober Alex about what happened on Friday night at Pete's. I make my way over to the rhythm section set up and unload my bass, my back facing the piano where Alex is plunking on the keys.
I set up completely and Alex cautiously approaches me and sets his hand gently on my shoulder. I inhale sharply and turn around to face him. "Listen Alexander." I say quietly, using his full name to let him know I mean all business. "It was nice for you to stand up for me the way you did. But honestly I have no feelings for you, not like that. You're a really nice guy but I don't see anything happening between-"
As I speak I feel Alex's lips slam into mine. I am shocked, not sure how to respond but after a few seconds I find myself kissing back. His hands find my waist and he pulls me into him, his chest feeling more muscular than it appeared through his white button up. I wrap my hands around his neck and tangle my fingers in his fine, perfectly combed hair.
The door opens and I jump back away from him, attempting to straighten myself out before turning around. I spare one last glance at Alex whose hair was disheveled before I turn around and my eyes meet Ryley's. He says nothing as he sits at his drums and begins to pound them, obviously upset.
I stand against the back wall until rehearsal starts, stealing as many glances at Alex as I can without being caught. After band I make my way through my classes, not really paying any attention to the lessons or the people.
After school I make my way back through the band room and head to door the. The room is mostly empty besides the teacher and a few freshmen wandering around. I open the door when I am taken aback by a figure of a man standing by the passenger side door of my truck.
I take a step back and let the door slam in front of me. How dare that man come here of all places. The place I come to escape from my mom and the burdens of my past. How dare he think that my ignored calls were an invite to come see me.
There standing by my truck was the outline of a man who I hadn't seen for 11 years and stop wishing would return 9 years ago.
