Ramadan is considered to be the most sacred month of the year. Not only it teaches us to sacrifice our desires for the greater cause of life but it also purifies our soul. As a result we gain so many qualities that helps us to become a better human.
During my childhood, I thought that fasting was like a game. Where one couldn't eat or drink for a certain amount of time.
Whoever has any amount of food or drink before the sunset, gets disqualified. The winners however get to eat the delicious food for iftar.
So i used to make plans of staying away from food during the day. But eventually my mom used to convince me into eating something. I used to get heartbroken at that time for getting disqualified in the game. But my mom assured me that Allah will reward me if I become a good child and be kind to people.
Back then I didn't quarrel with my cousins while we were playing since kindness is a major virtue of ramadan.
There was a time when i accidentally lied to my aunt, during Ramadan.
My Aunt who knew that i was lying didn't scold me,rather she advised me to refrain myself from lying during this holy month.
A few years later, when i officially became eligible for fasting, I used to keep a record of that in my Diary.
Gradually I came to understand the real purpose behind Ramadan. Fasting doesn't only refrain us for meals rather it keeps us away for the evil deeds. As a result our heart becomes free from the filth and we could turn ourselves towards chastity.
I'd say that I'm really thankful to Allah for granting me this beautiful month.I mostly eat my meals alone the rest of the year. But during Ramadan my parents come home early from work, and we have iftar together. Sitting with my parents during iftar is the best feeling in this world. I'd trade everything just to get this happiness over and over. Hence Ramadan creates a strong bond between the family members and increases love and affection for each other.
There are millions of people in this world who are deprived of getting a square meal everyday. We privililaged people on the other hand spend a huge amount money on our desired food items.Maybe we are really blinded by our lavish life that the miseries of the poor doesn’t affect us.But fasting changes our outlook about this whole scenario. We come to know about the miseries of the people living below proverty.I have seen so many people doing charity during this period, which is indeed a praiseworthy initiative. Ramadan Isn't always about eating the mouthwatering food from the best restaurants rather It's a way to ease the hardship of the miserable people.
My parents always encourage me to spend for those who are in need istead of spending for myself solely. Because ramadan is meant for distributing happiness.
