You know how you don't expect things sometimes? Like how you don't expect to see a train coming 120 miles per hour towards you? No? Maybe? Well either way... our love was like that, so out of nowhere, so unexpected. It was love up until the last heart beat, the last breath, from there after it was just love that couldn't be given. But this probably doesn't make much sense yet, so let's go back to July 5, 1983, when it began.

It was a hot summer afternoon, the warm sun which had risen hours before, beating down onto blistering skin, I took a deep breath in and let out a long exaggerated sigh as I sunk back in the blue and white striped chair that lay in the sun. The heat was finally sinking in, keeping me from thinking straight. I don't know why I chose to sit in the sun, my skin was as tan as it could get, my knees dark, red burns across my shoulders. With foggy thoughts I let myself drift off to sleep, not thinking about the consequences of being in direct sun for so long.

"Um, hello?" A faint voice woke me up. I opened my eyes, squinting at the sight of the sunset in direct vision, my eyes focused on the hand that was waving uncomfortably close to my face, that moved away to show a boy returning it to his side in front of me. My eyes wandered away from his hand and up to his face, examining his tan shorts that a blue shirt tucked into around the waist. The boy in front of me was Lucas Sancaster, he was fairly charming, typical boy next door, captain of the football team. Therefore, he had no reason to be talking to me, as I am very much-not popular or anywhere near his social status. The only reason he would dare talk to me was because I lived next door, and no one would see him talking to me.

"Oh um, hi sorry." I winced at my delayed response after snapping out of my trance.

"You're good." He grinned, lingering longer than I thought he would.

"Do you... need something." I pinched my eyebrows together glancing up at him. He was VERY attractive in this lighting.

"No, you just looked a bit.. Uncomfortable? If you stayed out any longer wearing that," He paused looking over my bare legs up to my face, scanning over my skin. "I think you might melt." Oh god. I followed his glance down on my own body, not expecting any neighbor-ly visits, I had only been wearing white small shorts and a red and white bikini top.

"Oh jeez Lucas," I blushed slightly, crossing my arms over my chest failing to help cover anything.

"Oh.. Wait! I didn't mean to be a creep like that!" He sounded panicked, I let out a small giggle, which helped him drop the sudden shock in his face. He smiled, his cheeks were a dark shade of pink and he scratched his neck nervously. "I'm gonna head back home, it's almost dinner anyways, I hope you didn't get burned too bad." He turned away and started a light jog back across his lawn.

"Thanks perve!" I shouted to him and turned back, he glanced over his shoulder with an ear to ear smile, which made my heart skip a beat. I shook off the feeling, suddenly realizing the pain that ran across my cheeks and down to every uncovered inch of skin, yup, sunburn.
