A Day with Cheka
"I need you to watch my nephew."
(Y/N) blinked at Leona in surprise. She had decided to have lunch in the botanical garden with him and Luxray after a screaming match between Grim and Ace devolved into an all out food fight. Leona was decent enough companion that he was preferable (he definitely slept most of the time, but considering her usual companion, (Y/N) appreciated someone more quiet once in a while) and he usually was in a good mood when Luxray let him sleep against her, which was most of the time.
"Um, sure. I don't mind, but why?"
He grabbed the bridge of his nose. "Of course my brother just sprung this on me out of nowhere and I just can't deal with the runt."
She nudged him with her elbow. "You know Cheka adores you."
"Will you do this for me or not?"
She sighed. "All right, but don't be surprised if he starts preferring my more."
He smirked before laying back. "Don't count on it, herbivore."
(Timeskip)
The next morning, after Grim vacated to avoid becoming a toy to yet another child, (Y/N) was summoned to the door by knocking. Unsurprisingly, Leona and Cheka were there to greet them.
"Auntie (Y/N)!" Cheka cheered as he latched on to her leg.
She bent down to hug him back. "Hi Cheka! You excited for today?"
"Yeah! Uncle Leona said you'll let me ride your monsters today!"
"Did he now?" She glanced at the older male.
"You've got plenty who are big enough."
She sighed. "I guess. So, you'll be back in the evening?"
"Yeah, just make sure he's in one piece or I'll never hear the end of it."
"I will. Say bye to your Uncle Leona, Cheka."
Cheka immediately ran and hugged him. "Bye Uncle Leona!"
"Whatever, runt."
Leona left them with a wave and (Y/N) led Cheka back inside. The little lion cub was immediately enraptured by Swampert, climbing all over him. The starter didn't mind much.
"Wow! I didn't see this monster in the Magift Tournament!"
(Y/N) chuckled. "That's Swampert. He's actually my first and strongest Pokémon."
Cheka looked at her with starry eyes. "Even stronger than the dragons you had?"
"Yes, even stronger than them."
"Wow! That's so cool! Hey Auntie! Do you have any monsters that look like lions?"
She hummed. "Kind of. The closest I have are Luxray and Shinx, but they're more lynxes. Of course there are Litleo and Pyroar, but I don't have those Pokémon. Come on, I'll introduce you."
She took his hand and led him to the living room where Luxray and Shinx were napping. The Gleam Eyes Pokémon acknowledged the small boy and moved her tail so Shinx could look at the boy. The young Pokémon was immediately curious and Cheka was delighted. (Y/N) crouched down to their level.
"Go on, you can pet them."
She had Cheka hold out a hand for Shinx to sniff and after a few, the small Pokémon began licking him before bounding up and rubbing against him. Cheka laughed and began petting and scratching Shinx, who loved the attention. (Y/N) had to hold back a squeal. It was just so cute. The two cubs were playing together! Luxray sniffed at Cheka and began grooming his ears. Cheka laughed and scratched her's in return, which she enjoyed. (Y/N) was really happy they got along so well.
"Hey Cheka, why don't I teach you to make Pokepuffs to feed them?"
His eyes lit up. "Really?!l
"Yeah, come on, I'll show you."
(Y/N) led him to the kitchen and Shinx followed close behind. As Cheka played with Shinx and all of the babies that immediately ran in when they heard about a new playmate, (Y/N) set up a little perch for him so he could watch what she did so he could copy her.
"I've never baked something before!" He admitted. "Dad says it's because I could get hurt."
"Don't worry, this is a pretty easy recipe."
Cheka only half paid attention to (Y/N)'s instruction, since he was having so much fun with Shinx and the others. (Y/N) didn't hold it against him and while the puff baked, Cheka rolled on the floor, play wrestling with Shinx and Jangmo-oh, cuddling Vulpix, and letting Applin jump all over him. He was much more attentive with decorating the puffs and he went all out with rainbow colors, though it was easy to tell who decorated which puffs. When they were finished, Cheka fed each of the babies and Luxray the desserts, earning licks and cuddles from them. After the baking, the two went outside to the biome area to play around.
"Look at me Auntie!" He called out, riding Swampert on the lake.
"I see you, Cheka! You're doing great!"
Crobat was hovering nearby in case he fell off.
The two swam around for a bit before walking around the lake. There was a small incident where Tyrantrum ran off with Cheka to show off and she had to chase them down on Arcanine, but besides that, the day was a blast for everyone.
As dusk began to settle, the two waited on the porch for Leona. Shinx was curled up in Cheka's lap, who was sitting in (Y/N)'s lap.
"You know, Cheka, I think you'd make a great Pokémon trainer."
"Really Auntie!?"
"Yeah, you have a gift with them, and they clearly like you."
"Do you think I could have one?"
She rubbed her head. "Well, there is a few issues with that. But right, you're still young. We're I'm from, you get your first Pokémon when you turn 11 (even though I'm an exception to the rule)."
"Do you think my first one could be Shinx?"
She blinked. The two did have good chemistry, and Luxray seemed happy to let them play. Still there was the obvious problems to deal with, but if she did find a way to head to and from this world, she didn't see the issue with them being partners.
She ruffled his hair. "Tell you what sweetie. We'll wait until your old enough, and then we'll see what Shinx thinks. How's that sound?"
"Okay!" He cheered.
"Oi." A voice said.
Leona approached them and (Y/N) picked up Shinx so Cheka could run to his uncle.
"Uncle Leona!" He hugged Leona, who groaned.
"Did you have fun with the herbivore?"
"We had a great time, kitty."
"Uncle Leona! (Y/N) said Shinx and I could be partners when I get older!"
"Did she now?" He gave her a side glance.
She held up her hands. "Only if Shinx wants to."
He hummed. "All right. Time to go home Cheka. Say goodbye to the herbivore."
Cheka ran up and hugged her. "Bye Auntie (Y/N)! Bye Shinx!"
She hugged him back. "Bye Cheka! Come visit anytime."
