It's cold, it has been for a while now. Not only because it's the beginning of September, but because there's a constant sense of fear lingering in the air for each and every witch or wizard walking the streets. Most people have gone into hiding, some moved to the country, some completely evacuated the country. But yet, Maria Potter is stood in front of her wardrobe in the same home she's always lived in, wondering what clothes she's taking to Hogwarts this year. There's a large mound of clothes that is behind her that she's throwing out, either because she doesn't like it, doesn't fit in it, or it reminds her of something that hurt her. She places her hands on her hips, placing her weight on her right leg as she stares into her wardrobe with a torn expression her her face as she chews her bottom lip.

She looks different than she did a year ago today, slimmer and her collarbones more defined in the purple tank top she's wearing. She's always been slim, but over the summer break she'd grown even skinnier, for a week after she'd found out about Danielle, she'd barely eaten unless Remus came in with a bar of chocolate like he did every day as soon as she replied when he knocked on her door. She'd reread most of her books at least twice and threw out a lot of her stuff out of anger and grief.

No one could blame her, she'd lost two of her best friends and her first love, two in the space of a month. James had constantly tried to cheer her up, sometimes it worked, like when he pranced into the dining room as a stag and gotten scolded by Lily for bringing in grass from the gardens.

The girls had been a big help, Marlene would force Maria to try any new things she'd try and bake, sometimes resulting in Maria throwing up in the toilet whilst Marlene would smile sheepishly as Lily would enter the bathroom and find the blonde eighteen year old holding the brunette's hair back.

Maria finally closed her trunk and switches her shorts for low waisted jeans and a denim jacket, throwing her hair into a ponytail and trudging down the stairs with Tiger's cage in one hand as the ginger cat sits on the bannister, and her trunk banging down each step behind her.

"Hello." Sirius coos as he lifts Tiger into his arms and leaves a kiss on the cats head as it purrs. Maria rolls her eyes, passing him and Sirius sighs, following her as she strolls into the living room. "Mar—come on, okay, I'm tired of this. I know you regret what we did and that's okay, you love—you weren't thinking, neither was I!"

"I know." Maria whispers and Sirius runs a hand through his hair as he places Tiger on the sofa. "It's just. . .I feel guilty about doing it but I feel bad because I feel like I used you—"

"You didn't—Maria do you know how many girls I've slept with?"

"So I'm just another 'girl you've slept with' now?" Maria raises her eyebrows with her arms folded across her stomach.
