As he left the room, he heard laughter from downstairs that probably belonged to one of the idiots who took him there for whatever reason. Katsuki went to the bathroom without getting lost, since he made a map of the house inside his head, he simply didn't see the point in actually looking around in the rooms. He didn't need to know what he's going to leave behind in a matter of hours, maybe days, he was yet to decide which would be worse.
Once he was inside the bathroom, he looked up to see it was also finely designed. He closed the door and turned the lock. It was nice and quiet inside. Katsuki's tenseness eased slightly, knowing he was alone in a room that could be locked from the inside. Better safe than sorry.
It's been quite a while since he got to take a bath alone. There was a strict schedule in the orphanage and even though he never really talked to anyone, especially the other kids, he only had some alone time when he was casted aside after getting in a fight.
He completely evaded looking into the mirror as cleaned himself quickly in silence, continuously listening to what was going on outside the door. He put on a change of clothes from his backpack instead of the ones the louder adult, whatever his name was, told him was placed in the wardrobe for him. They probably wouldn't let him keep those anyway after he's sent back to the orphanage.
He carefully arranged everything back the way they were as if he was never in the bathroom and waited a few quiet moments to turn the lock on the door. His heart was up in his throat as he opened the door to a crack and glanced outside, his backpack squeezed tightly in his other hand.
When the coast was clear, he slid back to the room he was assigned to. He left the door the way the loud adult set it and choose to sit in the corner on the door's side, between the wall and the wardrobe, as hidden as possible. He set his backpack down next to himself and pulled out the hero laws book he took from home. He had already read it over two times, now it was time to learn it.
He didn't turn the lights on, nor touched anything in particular, so he only had time to read as long as the sun was up. He buried himself deep into the book and didn't even notice someone entered the room until a voice asked from above:
"What are you reading?"
Katsuki flinched in surprise —definitely not fear— and his head snapped up before he could stop himself from looking. He found the eyes of the adult who hasn't said much to him since they met compared to the louder one. He was wearing all black as well as Katsuki except for the pink apron on his front. He stood next to him at the corner and Katsuki realized sitting there was the dumbest idea, now that he had nowhere to run. He couldn't bring himself to break the eye contact while the black haired man had an unimpressed aspect on his face while waited for him to answer.
Before Katsuki could swallow the lump in his throat and get the chance to speak up, the man crunched down in front of him. Katsuki tensed every single muscle in his body to stop himself from flinching again.
They still stared at each other wordlessly, the man had an unreadable expression on, and the only thing Katsuki was sure about was he wasn't the only one who couldn't sleep at night judging by the looks of the man.
"Can I see?" The man asked softly and reached for the book. Katsuki shut the book closed and held it against his chest before the man could take it.
