When I was younger we learned about the red strings. About how fate will tie you together with your one and only soulmate.
I never really understood why fate had to choose our lover. Why couldn't we choose our own path in our love life? Was our soulmate really the only one we could truly love and love back. But the people who cut their string lose all of the feelings of love. Your string will turn white and you would see the cut. Some people say you could end up dying from a broken heart. Which does happen when you were close to your soulmate. Some people get away with murder by cutting their string and getting close to their lovers. But they end up dying at the age of 30, if you kill before the age of 30 then you die then and there.
My mom always told me that, "You must find your soulmate or you will always feel incomplete. You will feel like a big part of you is missing," My mom always inspired me. When I turn 18 I will leave home and find my soulmate.
I have been saving up money for years and years in case my soulmate lived far away. Which in some cases does happen to people. It usually happens to people who are special in some way, their string is different than others. What I mean by different is people's string is a different color or a bright red. But if your string is a different color that isn't a good sign, that means something is wrong with your soulmate. But if it is a bright red that just means your soulmate lives far away.
When we turn 18 we have to learn how to see and show others our string. Sometimes it takes but to 5 weeks. But after that, it will show on its own. I will turn 18 in a few days, and when I say I can't sleep I mean I can't sleep. I just feel an overwhelming emotion, I am really excited for this to happen.
When I finally drift off to sleep all I could see what these two red figures. They looked like one girl and one guy I couldn't tell they were made up of the color red. Then a 3rd came in running, jumping into their arms giving them a hug. She was also made up the color red, the first girl grabbed the side of the happy jumpy girl. Then the guy walked over and went behind the girl that is behind held and kissed her neck. I tried to look away but all I say was darkness, emptiness. Was I about to watch these three people have sex?
Then I looked at their fingers and that's when I saw their soulmates. All three of them, that isn't even possible is it? The boy leans in for a kiss on the happy jumpy girl's lips and then the other girl holding the giddy one kiss's the guy's neck. I was starting to turn red but why was I? Then poof there gone, I looked around to see if I could find them but all I was was darkness.
All I could hear was "BEEP BEEP BEEP," I quickly wake up open my eyes hoping I am not in that dark room anymore. I look at my clock to see that it is time for me to get ready for school. I jump out of bed and decided to get ready before I eat anything.
Once I enter the bathroom I start brushing my teeth, my dad knocks on the door yelling, "Who's in there?" I sigh and yell back, "It's me dad," Then he walks away. I walk out of the bathroom and get myself dressed in a nice outfit I have. I really like the outfit I chose it really matches me a little bit. I usually wear jeans and I really nice top with a jacket.

I walk out of my bedroom looking or everything I need for school. I usually don't bring anything home other than homework. Other than that everything else stays in my locker, which is nicely organized and neatly decorated. I open the door before I can even get my foot out the door my dad yells, "Hey Cora, aren't you forgetting something?" he says tapping his foot on the ground with his arms crossed. I sigh and run to dad and yell back, "Sorry dad love ya," and then I ran out the door.
While I walk to school I keep thinking about my dad. Not the red string for once, my dad is half deaf ever since the car accident with my mom dad me, and my little sister. Not everyone made it out in one piece or even made it out at all. My little sister Emily never made it out, she was only 7 when she died. My mom came out fine other than a few stitches on her forehead and well for me and my dad. My dad went half-deaf, and I got cuts all over my arms and legs. My one leg was cut open cuss of the glass and the metal on the door.
When I finally make it to school and when I walk quickly in search of my best friend. Unlike me and her, she already found her soulmate. I am still waiting for mine to show up, "Just a few more days," I mumble to myself quietly. Then there I hear my best friend yelling my name. I just stand there with a smirk on my face with my arms crossed.
"Cora! I have so much news," She is jumping up and down at this point. I blink shocked by the amount of energy she has at this moment.
"What's the news, Ava?" Trying to keep my voice steady. " I am getting married after we graduate Highschool," I stare at her blankly once more. I was shocked did her lover boy really get down on his knee to her already. I mean they just met only 4 months ago. "Well don't you think it is a bit early for that you know. You just met the guy only 4 months ago," This really did piss her off. Her face was red and you could see her fist clench. She yells, "Well we are soulmates, who else am I going to get married to huh!?" her attitude really surprise me. My best friend yelling at me? Really?
I just roll my eyes and I walk to another boring crappy class. I only pay attention to cuss my life literally depends on the school grades. I plan on having a nice home and starting a family one day. But I can't do any of those if I don't have good grades. I arrive in class and all we learn about is the red string. I don't really pay attention cuss I already know everything about it. I read all of the books in all of the libraries near me. And I have even done extra work and studies in school, sometimes I get made fun of and called the "Red string nerd" which sucks a lot. But I don't really mind now cuss I don't give a dam about what they think.
When the school bell rings that when me and Ava walk out of class getting ready to eat lunch. I grab my school lunch and wait for Ava by the bench and when she arrives she sits down and looks up at me sitting on the table with my tray on my lap. "What, can I help you?" I stare at her and she stares at me then she smirks and says, "Are you excited about your birthday in a few weeks and getting your red string?" when she said that I was drinking my water but mostly choked on it and yelled, "IT'S IN A FEW WEEKS!"
