No..he didn't care if it worked; it bought him time, and that was what mattered. He refused to just lie down and let himself die.

He harshly wiped his tears away with his sleeve. His feet moved quickly down the steps with Ace by his side.

His eyes searched the streets for his partner. It was then that he realized that he had no idea where to start..how much time did he have? Was it already too late? Was Anthony even here anymore..

He shook his head, dismissing these thoughts.

Think..think...

He urged himself.

How could he find him if he couldn't sense him... His eyes looked down at the crystals around his neck. Angel's was still empty, while his own still glowed brightly.

He looked over at his shadow who shared his tense expression. "See if you can find him..you can cover more ground than me." The shadow's eyes got wide, not wanting to leave it's master's side. "We haven't many options, this may be our only chance. Now go."

The shadow frowned; but it obeyed nonetheless. Giving it's master a pat on the shoulder and a nod, it slunk off, using the shadows around to move quickly.

As if on it's own, Alastor's hand held Angel's crystal tightly in his hand, desperately wishing to feel his partner's soul. But he couldn't, so he simply held it like a lucky charm.

He turned his gaze back to the streets, moving away from the building.

Alastor wasn't sure what to do, and he couldn't risk using any more magic. Hell, he wasn't sure how he'd even been able to before.

So he went about it as someone would of a missing person down on earth. He simply went around, trying to ask some of the civilians if they had seen any sign of his partner. Many gave him odd looks, whether or was for his appearance, or when he brought up his partner to be a male. But right now, he didn't care in the slightest.

None of them had seen him. Nor even heard of him...

"Anthony? Who's that?" Most said. "Haven't seen someone like that around." Another said.

After about an hour of searching he was feeling hopeless, yet he refused to rest; he had to find him. He would eventually, if he just kept looking.

And since he'd already assaulted an angel, it was only a matter of time before his time ran out.

Maybe he wouldn't make it out alive...but at least he could see Anthony one last time. Or he could try to make sure that he was the one to make it out of here. He'd still had his life to live, after all. It wouldn't be right if Anthony died here because of him.

He came to a stop on the sidewalk, in the center of town. This was one of those rare times that he was not smiling, being unable to find the strength to do so.

A long sigh escaped him. He had yet to see his shadow ever since he last saw it over an hour ago, and since he was still alive, that meant his shadow had no luck either.

His hand took the crystal in it, looking back at the reflective surface. How his red eyes stared back, tired and defeated.

Where are you, Anthony? Please...give me some sort of sign.

His hand clenched tighter around the crystal..closing his eyes.

Please...let me know you're okay. Let me know if you're still out there...please.

He opened his eyes, staring at the crystal. Waiting for something...anything.
