He looked at me for a moment and then smiled.

"No."

With that, he literally leaped up the stairs effortlessly causing my arms to subconsciously wrap around his neck in response to his fast pace.

As he stepped in front of my door, he gently placed me down and stepped to the side.

I sighed reaching into my bag to reach for my keys. As I opened the door, I suddenly took a step back.

"WELCOME HOME SKYLER!" Yelled Hazel, Sydney standing beside her.

I placed my hands to my mouth and gasped slightly.

"Oh my goodness, guys." I smiled.

"We're going to make your first day back, the most comfortable you have ever been." Sia said , a grin on her face.

"Aw thank you! You really didn't have to." I said quietly, completely in awe.

"Come inside dear! Don't just stand there." Hazel said laughing.

"If you don't go inside, I'll carry you inside myself." Kai said smirking.

I gave him a playful punch on the shoulder and made my way inside.

There were a few streamers hanging from the ceiling, as well as a cake on the table too.

I greeted Hazel first.

"My dear! How are you! I'm so sorry about this. I should have notified you beforehand to let you know that I wasn't staying in my summer home that week." She said embracing me.

"I swear, you all are blaming yourselves. Don't worry about it Hazel. I was just worried that you were inside!"

"How are you feeling otherwise? What did the doctors say?" She asked, a worried expression on her face.

"Just to get plenty of rest. I have some topical cream to apply to some of the burns I got but it's not that bad." I shrugged.

"You poor thing." Hazel frowned.

I stepped back and turned to Sydney, standing right beside her.

"Hey. You okay? We were all pretty worried." She said quietly.

"Yeah. Thanks Sydney. You were a big help calling the police and everything." I said touching her arm briefly.

"Honestly, you were the help. You saved a life, you know that Skyler?" She said smiling.

"Aha I guess so, yeah." I said embarrassed.

Kai took my hand and led me to the table.

"You must be hungry! Lets have cake." He said pulling a chair open for me.

I sat down and nodded my head. "Yessiree!"

Sia and Hazel laughed and made their way to the table, followed by Sydney.

"Oh, be right back!" Kai said jogging off to the side.

Sia cut me a piece of cake before taking some out for the others. "Kai remembered to get your favourite, Black Forest Cake." she said smiling.

"How thoughtful." I smiled shyly wondering where he had run off to.

At that moment, two hands covered my eyes.

"Whuh?" I murmured.

The hands fell to the side and in front of me were flowers and cards.

"Welcome back Skyler!" they all chirped.

I smiled gratefully. "Guys, what is this?" I said in awe.

"Aye, it's nothing." Sia said. "Sydney and I picked out the flowers, and Kai and Hazel got you the cards."

I reached my hand out for the card closest to me. It read:

'Sky,

You are a remarkable woman. The fact that you had the courage to risk your life to save another is incredible. I'll keep it short and sweet just for you ;) . Get well soon. I'm here if you need ANYTHING. Whatever it is, I'll be by your side.

-Kai '

"Ohh" I cooed, placing my hand over Kai's for a moment. "Thank you."

He smiled lightly.

I picked up the next card.

'Skyler, I'm still trying to comprehend that you actually went into a burning house. Omg. You might as well be frickin' superwoman! I can now officially say that you are one of the coolest, prettiest, kindest and now bravest girl I know. Feel better <3

-Yours truly, Sia. '

There were more messages written across the card.

'My dear Skyler,

You are such an admirable young woman. I am so proud of you for doing what you did. However, your safety is my top priority. If anything were to happen to you ... Never mind that. I'd like you to rest and take it easy for a while. Recover quickly sweetie,

- Hazel '

' Hey,

Well done for what you did. You should get a medal or something haha. I'm glad I could help you. You were really brave then. I would never have been able to endure that. I look up to you for that. Get well soon.

- Syd '

I looked up with a grin on my face. " Thank you all so much, but this really wasn't necessary. I was only in the hospital for a few days."

"Who knows how long it could have been..." Kai said gazing off into the distance.

"We're just glad you're back home." Sia said.

I picked up the bouquet of flowers admiring its bright pastel colours. I slumped back into the chair smiling.

"I'm glad to be home too."
