Nobody's POV
Now leaving the tree, she saw Shawn's sleeping face contorted in fear. Maya softly brushed a stray strand of black hair out of his face and kissed his lips in goodbye. Slipping to the platforms, she leaps from one to another safely touching the ground.
"Goodbye Shawn." Brushing away a single silver tear, she fled into the woods, an arrow knocked to light her way.
Some hours later, at dawn
Amaya's POV ↞♘↠
I woke with the rising sun, reaching into my pack to find food that I had put there. Nutra I guess...After eating I draw a normal arrow in case of attack. By now I had made it into what had once been New York. Queens, I think...
I hear voices. Several girls and two men. I count four ladies. I duck into the bushes to see if I can find out who stalks me at this hour. The first one I see is a darker vibe male. I know him.
Nathan Reyes. My ex.
He'd hurt me in the past. Given me the scars I hide, the ones that show I say are from a hunting accident. I draw an arrow silently, hoping I can take him down. The arrow lodges in his shoulder. The first girl I see stops to help him. I prepare to shoot her too. Running out, bow drawn, I aim at anyone willing to cross my path.
"Who are you? Answer me or he dies!" I aimed at his face, one I once loved to look at but now it only brings me pain and bad memories. "I said answer me!"
Nathan, now covered in dirt and what looked like Z slime, finally has recognition in his eyes. I pull the bowstring taut, aiming for his eyes. One of the girls shouts her name.
"My name is Lillian." She has a weapon of her own, a sharp bronze blade. Poised to throw, she surprises me by setting the dagger down. "We mean no harm. This is Chloe and Grace That is--"
"I know who he is. His name is Nathan. So, Lillian--'' I say her name with hatred, not knowing why she is associated with the asshole named Nathan "--What are you people, if you even are people, doing out here in the woods of Old Queens?" I say this cautiously, not knowing whom lurks in the shadows, but I can feel his presence. I give the bowstring slack, replacing the arrow to my quiver.
" As I was saying The other is Dylan. We never got your name, as you were threatening us with your bow."
I study the other male closely. He looks well defended, but still. Calm, undisturbed by my entry, or my threats to Nathan. I draw my obsidian blade, razor sharp, if not sharper. It's killed many people that were Turned.
"I'm Amaya Blacke. Here to kill the man that started the Apocalypse. The Z war. His name is Ebony Malik. He's my grandfather. The world is a war zone. What the hell are you doing out in the open?" It was the idiot I shot, Nathan, who spoke.
"As you might have noticed, before you shot me, grabbing supplies then leaving"
"Watch where you're getting shot then, Reyes. Come on. I've got stuff here." I notice a fourth girl. Weaponless, I hand her a knife I had on my belt. "You'll need it out here." On her bag was the name Janelle. I assumed that was her name.
~~~
"You're named Janelle?"
"I'm assuming so seeing as it's been my name since birth but who are you again I spaced out sorry?"
"I thought you heard? I'm Amaya." I have a sassy tone, one I never knew existed. I'm taken aback for a moment.
"Okay and how do you know Nathan?"
