A few months later...
Childe's training was tough. But surprisingly it had prepared me.
Prepared me for what?
A battle.
A big one in fact.
Fatui.
Hilichurls.
Abyss Mages.
Ruin Hunters, Guards, and Graders.

Childe had told me when we first meet that he was a Fatui member.
And that worries me. Which side will he pick?

As I entered the battle field, all my training fresh in mind, I couldn't help but feel a wave of nausea.

Almost instantly, 3 hilichurls surrounded me.
I spun around and slashed my sword in a circle.
Flicking my hands, I made huge icicles impale the hilichurls and they fell.

I heard a huge stomp behind me and I twirled only for my feet to be knocked out from under me.
I craned my neck and a strong hand pinned me down.
"C-Childe??" I spluttered.

He smiled, and leaned in closer to my ear.
"I'm on your side."
His warm breath tickled my ear.
I smiled and sighed in relief.
He continued to lean down and his lips landed on the side of my cheek.

My eyes widened and I turned around to see him blushing aggressively.
He jumped off me and readied an arrow.

"Go survive. Because if you don't I'll drag you from the depths of Hell back into this world."
"Haha. Very funny." I shoved him lightly.
With a final shout he took off.

I saw missiles coming from above me.
Probably a Ruin Hunter. I dodged swiftly but a missile caught the heel of my shoe.
I yelped in pain and ran into a Pyro Fatui.
It loaded its crossbow and dodged my first attack.
But Childe told me the attack patterns.
I ducked and ran to the right and slashed the Fatui until it became limp.

I ran toward a Fatui and saw the small Fatui scampered away from me.

3 Abyss Mages floated towards me and I brandished my sword.
Luckily for me, 2 were Pyro and 1 was Hydro, so I wouldn't spend too long breaking their shields.
As I waved my hand in an arc it trapped them in a ice cage, which instantly froze them.

When the cage disappeared I spun in a circle and brought both of my hands down.
That created a strong blast of Cyro with tiny ice bits in it.
It killed the Mages instantly.

I froze in pain as 5 arrows struck me.
I shrieked and charged toward the 5 hilichurls that had crossbows.

I shouldn't be able to run so fast.
I should've looked where I was running.
I say that because right then, a Mitachurl with a fiery axe stepped in my way.

The axe hit my side and I fell, coughing up blood.
There was a giant rip in the side of my shirt. With blood slowly oozing out.

I felt like I couldn't breathe when the sky was blocked by Fatui, hilichurls, and Abyss Mages. Even a Ruin Guard hovered above them, its loud footsteps shaking the ground.
I tilted my head to the side and closed my eyes.
The peace, sadly, didn't last that long when Hilichurls began to beat me with clubs, Abyss Mages threw their spells at me, and Fatui attacked me.

"We won! We won! W-wait... why's there a group surrounding something...?" I heard a soldier exclaim.
"Y/N. Y/N?!" Childe screamed and raced toward me.

Soon the sky was visible, and so was Childe's face.
He crouched down beside me.
"HEY! WAKE UP!" He shook my shoulders, and I looked him in the eyes.
"It...hurts...Childe." I groaned.

He picked me up gently and put me in his lap.
"Someone! Get help!"
I smiled, blood spilling out of my mouth onto Childe's clothes.

With shaky hands, I reached up to touch his face.
He grabbed my wrist gently and his tears fell on my face.

"Y-you can't leave... I love you." He sobbed.
"I didn't keep the promise. I can't fight you now." He laughed sadly, his tears chocking him.

"Childe?" I whispered.
"Yes?" He wiped his tears away.
"Can you sing me a song...?"

He began to hum the same song he was singing when he first met.
His voice shook, and tears began to fall on my face yet again.
I smiled as all I could hear was his voice, singing.

He leaned down, so his nose was touching mine.
Even though I was dying, I didn't expect his lips to land on mine.
He continued the song.
Right as he hit the final note I could feel my last breath leave my body.

Childe POV
When she went limp in my arms I couldn't help it.
I screamed at the top of my lungs. I cried until no tears came out.

Everybody in the battle field was looking at me.
It didn't matter. Y/N was gone.
I whispered to her body, as if she were still there,

"If you make a promise, you keep it. If you make a mistake you apologize. And if you have a dream, you defend it until the end. I didn't keep my promise. I'm sorry Y/N."
