Chapter 11 | The Search for Byakuya

I rolled my eyes. "Of course." I grumbled under my breath.

He was sitting on one of the chairs, a book in hand. A table was beside him, there was a reading lamp on the surface, it was turned on and shining on his book, there was also a white mug on the table near his hand.

"Byakuya!?"

I flinched and jumped to the right. I covered my left ear and Makoto looked over at me and hastily began stuttering an apology.

"(Y-Y/N)!? I'm so sorry!"

"It's alright." I say.

The both of us then turn back to the door.

"Hey, uh...what are you doing?" Makoto asks awkwardly.

"I'm fishing. What does it look like I'm doing?" Byakuya replies, sarcastically not looking up from his book. "I'm trying to read. So if you both could be quiet..."

"Oh...sorry." Makoto apologizes.

"I'm not." I mutter, annoyed.

"Wait, no-! What are you doing here? Everyone's super worried!" Makoto says.

"Not me." I said, but the two boys just ignore me.

"We've all been looking for you!" Makoto adds.

"Who asked you to do that?" Byakuya asks.

"B-Because...we're all supposed to meet up in the morning and eat together. We made a promise!" Makoto says.

"A promise...?" Byakuya questions.

He then sighs. "Can't I get a second's peace and quiet around here?"

"Come on, Makoto. It's obvious we all wasted our time searching for this jerk. Let's just get back to the dining room and tell the others that he's still breathing." I say.

Makoto opened his mouth to reply when Byakuya snapped his book shut and slowly stood up from his chair. I heard the sound of multiple footsteps so I assumed the others must have heard Makoto's yelling and began showing up one by one.

"Byakuya! So this is where you've been hiding!" Taka shouts.

"The heck you doin' here, man?" Yasuhiro asks.

"We were very concerned..." Sakura says.

"Not me." I say and I feel someone hit my arm.

I look to my right and see Naomi had came to stand beside me.

"Well, you had no reason to be. I was just reading. I've never read such a...coarse novel before, but it might just prove useful at some point." Byakuya tells us.

"Well, what were you reading?" Naomi asks, crossing her arms over her chest.

"A mystery novel." Byakuya replies.

"W-Wait, so are you gonna use what you're learning in there to betray us!?" Hifumi asked nervously.

"Don't be stupid." Byakuya says coldly.
