There was a chess tournament only a week from today in a nearby town and the chess club would come back to school after dropping off their stuff and getting something to eat, and they would stay at the school until 8pm.
This night was different, they needed to figure out which of them can represent their school. Only three spots can join while there are 7 members. So naturally they wanted to decide their numbers before too much time passes. So they practice and practice.
During the night, which was a nightmare to set up and get permission to use the auditorium this late, Jane went on a flawless streak beating her peers and climbing to the number one spot. As each one got eliminated they left until it was just Jane, Eric, and Leonardo. They congratulated each other and went on their different directions, even though the goodbye was awkward.
You see Jane and Eric had a past. Eric has repeatedly asked her out with her declining politely each time with her friendliness and patience for it slowly wearing thin.
Jane pulled out her phone to light the path as she waded through the dark night. She was all alone, or so she thought.
Jane was always a paranoid person without reason but this time her suspicion of being followed is true.
She starting texting her BFF Grace as she trying to calm her down.
But her panic stoped, and so did the messages.
Grace was panicky typing to Jane hoping and praying for a safe response soon. As she got more worried she contacted the police. When they arrived at her home she told them everything that Jane said and her last known location.
Over the next couple days they police investigated the entire path from the school to her home to find any clues that might bring her safety.
The community of this small town came together and did search parties to find the missing girl and two months went by without a trace of Jane but Grace didn't give up.
School was coming to a close and she got an idea of what might've happen. She went through her diary and planner for the day of her disappearance and found out that Eric was stalking her and even paid off the rest of the chest club to lose to Jane and him so they can be together at the tournament with one other.
She took her suspicions to the police and they didn't believe her.
The next day a box with a VHS tape and a tiny chess set arrived on her doorstep with a note that read, "inside lies R87 and the last chess game youre friend
