What was the sensation he described? What did it mean? Like someone was sprinting towards me….cement, hit me in the chest. He said he had died, but it was obvious he hadn’t. He had gone into the store and ordered coffee, like a normal, everyday guy. His skin was a tannish brown, with his similar black hair yet muddy eyes. His clothes had color-a bright red overcoat with black sweat pants and NIKE sneakers.
He wasn’t gray. He wasn’t dead.
And he had no idea that I was deceased either.
So many puzzles to decipher, it made my head spin. He was looking at me cautiously, probably because I seemed about to burst with emotions-I didn’t even know which.
“Naomi? You alright?”
“No.” I wheeze the word, that dreaded word, and I settle my hand on my still heart to calm myself. “No, nothing’s alright.”
“What do you mean? Naomi, you’re scaring me,” he warily says. I grasp my arms, crossing my arms and breathing-gasping would be the better word. Woody puts a hand on my head, patting the top of my skull. I shrug him off.
“You’re ok, ok? Nobody got you, nobody killed you, you’re alive and breathing and-”
“NO!” I push him away and stand up, pacing like a madwoman. “GET AWAY FROM ME!”
“NAOMI!”
“I’M DEAD!” I wail, giving up. “I AM GONE!” I press the heels of my hands to my eyeballs. He stands there, dumbstruck.
“Wh…what?”
“I’m not saying it again. Stay here, I’ll be back soon.”
I run out of the coffee shop. “CARLANA, HELP ME!”
Whoa, whoa! What?!
“Oh my gosh, Carlana, thank goodness!” I cry, wishing I could hug her. “I need help!”
So I sense, but I already know the aid you wish for. Your brother...technically died.
“What?”
He died. In the hospital. They revived him. The feeling he described? It was his soul flying back to him.
“How’s that possible? Why can he see me?!”
Look, I know it’s weird. But he DID spend some time being dead. Even though he’s revived and living again….he’s like a sorier, without powers. That applies to anyone who’s died and came back.
“What about Alexandra? SHE didn’t die!”
