Levi x Reader Part 2

Start from the beginning

Levi gingerly got off his horse while you jumped down off yours and grabbed the box that belonged to Petra. Levi waited for you before he knocked on the door of Mr Ral's home.

"You figured out what you're going to say?" you asked and Levi gave a small nod. There was a shuffling noise from behind the door and then it opened all of a sudden. Mr Ral observed his guests and his face contorted into a large, albeit nervous grin.

"Captain Levi, Captain (Y/N)," he greeted with a nod. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" you stood, waiting for Levi to speak but no words left his mouth. The man cursed to himself. Why? Why all of a sudden could he not speak? He had gone over everything in his mind but now, standing there in front of Mr Ral, it all sounded so preposterous. Sorry for your loss?! Was that good enough?! Sorry your daughter was killed by a titan?! Levi felt like an idiot. He should have done this by mail like Erwin had instructed.

"Mr Ral," your words caused Levi to snap from his thoughts. "May we come inside? I'm afraid the conversation isn't one bystanders should be overhearing," your voice was gentle, caring, as loving as you could make it without making it sound sorrowful.

But your words were all Mr Ral needed to hear. His heart dropped and his mind rushed to the worst possible outcome. He quickly stepped aside and his fears were confirmed when he saw the box in your hands. Had his daughter – had his Petra... he didn't want to think about it.

"I... would... what..." Mr Ral tried to form a coherent sentence but his mind wouldn't cooperate with his mouth. You nudged Levi slightly but the man still remained silent. What on earth was he supposed to say? You sucked in a deep breath. This was why Levi wanted you to come. Normally, he wasn't short for words but this was the first time he had ever had to deal with something like this before. Farlan and Isabel had no family, only Levi, and he got his anger out on the titan that killed him.

"Mr Ral, would you please take a seat?" you asked, motioning to the sofa in the living room. The man slowly walked over to it and sat down. Levi followed; fists balled. He had to say something. He just had to.

"My daughter," Mr Ral's voice cracked as tears started to form in his eyes. You sat the box on the table in front of him.

"Mr Ral," you glanced to Levi, who stood to your right, giving him a chance to say something, but he just stared at the box of belongings that Petra had. There was so little. She had made such a big impact in his life; in his Squad and she barely had any belongings. "It is with great sorrow and regret that I must inform you that Petra Ral, Cadet of the Survey Corps, Soldier of the Special Operations Squad, serving under Captain Levi, has passed," he didn't want to hear it. Mr Ral didn't want to believe it. But your words, they were spoken with such sorrow, such pain that it was hard to keep your voice from cracking. Your words were true. His heart broke, his world shattered. His daughter... his only daughter, was gone.

The wail of sorrow Mr Ral released caused you to take a step back and Levi to flinch slightly. His head hung low as the tears streamed down his face. This couldn't be true! She couldn't be gone. Petra had promised him she would be fine! But she knew the risks, Mr Ral knew the risks.

"H-her death," Mr Ral's voice came out broken, unsteady, wavering. He gritted his teeth, trying to steady his voice. "Was it... was it for nothing?" his words took you by surprise. You'd heard this question asked by other families but it was always aimed to Erwin, who gave a truthful answer. Mr Ral looked up to you. Unlike the hateful eyes you expected, they were broken. The man in front of you was just broken.

"Petra Ral," Levi finally found his voice. "Died protecting Eren Yeager, the boy who we believe will change the world and rid humanity of the existence of Titans," Mr Ral looked to Levi, a frown on his face. "She was brave. She was loved. She was friendly and she will be missed," he didn't know what else to say. Levi wasn't good at comforting people.
