thought it would be better to post this in a book than on my mb i have a lot i want to say plus it might reach more people this way

if you hadn't heard by now, on tuesday march 16th, a white man shot eight people and injured one at three spas in atlanta, georgia. six of them were asian women, all three spas were asian-owned; this was very blatantly a hate crime. this murderer had a history of anti-asian social media activity.

however, in spite of lucid evidence, the police have denied that it was a racially motivated attack. why? simply because this murderer claimed he didn't. this terrorist claimed to have a "sex addiction" and that he couldn't resist the temptation.

so not only was this an act of racism but it was an act of misogyny. asian women are constantly fetishized and infantilised by men in western societies. they are hypersexualised, portrayed as submissive and child-like and are treated like a form of property. furthermore, these are more prone to anti-asian violence (2.3 more likely than asian men). 68% of perpetrators in attacks were men.

this disgusting excuse of a human being was a racist and a fetishiser of asians who decided, in an attempt to get rid of any "temptations", to take these innocent lives.

the sheriff justified it by saying the killer was having a "really bad day"

this is not okay and this is not the first attacks on asian, in spite of what you might think. it will definitely not be the last.

discrimination against minorities, asians included, is historically embedded into american history (along with western societies in general) but anti-asian violence has been on the rise since the beginning of pandemic, with a 150% increase in anti-asian attacks and 3,800 reported attacks against asian-americans since march 2020. this is not the first incident, asians have been begging people to pay attention to their suffering for a long time. it's merely the first attack that has gotten this much attention from the media, it took a fucking massacre for our voices to finally be heard.

angelo quinto, a filipino man, was murdered during a mental health crisis when a policeman kneeled on his neck for 5 minutes as angelo pleaded "please don't kill me".

a thai grandpa was pushed over and killed by an unprovoked adolescent.

a man slashed a myanmar father's face before proceeding to stab his two young sons (ages 3 and 6 respectively).

a 75-year-old asian man pan ho was robbed and punched, suffering a traumatic brain injury from which he died from.

this sickening list just goes on

please do not ignore the shooting or any of these attacks. if you are not asian, specifically white, spread awareness, educate yourself, educate your friends and family, call out racist jokes. even if they seem insignificant, so-called "jokes" against minorities normalise racism and other forms of discrimination. please share this around if you can and/or tag friends + followers

do not stay silent. white silence is violence. if you are silent, you are being complicit in the racism against asians and being a bystander. it doesn't take long to post something, we need your solidarity right now, we need your support. we are hurt and scared and angry.

i don't care if it makes you uncomfortable so you ignore it. asians don't have a choice to ignore this. our community is suffering. we want people to finally listen to us and we will not be silenced
