I walked through the front door, immediately pulling off my sneakers and tossing them aside. Edaline steps into the foyer, untying her apron. "How'd it go, sweetheart?"
I groaned and set my bags down. "Monstrous. My blisters have blisters. Biana and Linh managed to walk through the whole thing in heels and they weren't even limping!"
Edaline laughed. "Well, show me what you got! You're going to be the prettiest girl there."
I smiled and Edaline led me to the couch. She gently took a bag from me and pulled out a black dress.
"Oh, Sophie! This is beautiful!"
"Thanks. Biana picked it out, you know her." Edaline planted a kiss on my forehead.
"Try it on for me later, the whole thing. I'm going to finish dinner. We're having a family movie night today and Grady and I have something to tell you."
That piqued my interest, but Edaline didn't elaborate. "What is it?"
"Now that is a surprise, young lady." She winked and headed back into the kitchen.
I sighed dramatically and hauled my bags up into my room. My phone buzzed with a text from Vertina. I opened it quickly.

I closed the app and set the phone down. Oh, Edaline. I carefully hung up the dress and put the jewelry in a box I got when I first moved here. Stumbling into my shower, I relaxed a bit as the hot water rolled down my back and cleansed the horror of mass shopping from my skin.
My mind immediately wandered to the surprise Grady and Edaline had to tell me. Would I have to leave Foxfire? Would I have to go to jail? Were Grady and Edaline going to jail? Was there about to be a nuclear war? Did they finally figure out Obama's last name? I decided jumping to conclusions wouldn't do me much good.
I go downstairs and see Grady and Edaline on the couch, choosing a movie. I go and sit next to them, snuggling in.
