*A FEW YEARS AGO*

You first met Natasha Romanoff on a night out. You guys became fast friends and enjoyed the evening hanging out. You didn't know much about her but you enjoyed her company, you knew this was the start of a good friendship.

Whilst you were enjoying yourself over on the dancefloor you saw a group of men approaching Nat. You made your way over to them to see what was happening.

'Is there a problem here?'

'don't worry y/n, I can handle this' Nat replied.

You were unsure but took a few steps away, still keeping them in view just in case. You turn around for a second as someone accidently bumps into you. They apologise but all of a sudden you here a crash from behind you. You turn around to see Nat beating up one of the men that approached her. You see the other two running towards her from behind and launch yourself at them. Together you take the three of them down and leave them unconscious on the floor as you walk out of the building.

'you gonna tell me where you learned to fight like that?' Nat asked whilst grinning.

'you first'

She told you about growing up and training in the red room, and about how she now uses her training for the greater good but she wouldn't say what exactly.

'ok so that's me, your turn' she said as you both walked aimlessly around the streets.

'Ugh fine. When I was younger I lived with my parents in a house much bigger than we needed. I had everything I could ask for. They never told me what they did for work, and I never asked. It seemed like something I would regret finding out. Anyway, as the years went on they started spending longer and longer away on 'business trips'. My dad always wanted to teach me how to defend myself but my mum would always say 'as long as we are both here she is safe'. One day they weren't both there. My dad came back from the trip, my mum didn't. It was at this point he decided that I had to learn to fight. He said it 'wasn't safe' and that I 'needed to be able to defend myself'. I never really knew what he was talking about but I always went along with it'

you continued to tell her about how you would train everyday to become as good as you are now.

'One day my dad went out on another trip, I didn't know where, and once again I was left by myself. A few days later I got news that there had been an attack on the hotel where he was staying. He wasn't coming home. This broke me. I was alone. Soon I received a letter of admission to a boarding school in England. My father had set this up as he knew one day he wouldn't be there for me. I was escorted there the next day and that's where I spent the next few years of my life. I left when I was 18 and moved here and have been here ever since'

'So what is it you do now?' Nat asked, you could tell she was invested in my story and was thinking something.

'Nothing interesting, just a dead-end office job. I'm looking for something new though'

'well y/n, this might just be your lucky night' she said smiling

'what?'

'you'll see'

She went off to make a call and next thing you know you're in her car pulling up to the avengers compound.

'congratulations y/n, you just got promoted'
