"Troy! Get up! You'll be late! It's exam day!", said a voice. Morning... Getting up early in the morning... My worst enemy yet. *RING* *RING*, the alarm clock sounded. Grrrrr... This sucks. I get up, and head to the door. *BANG* *BANG*, the sound of a fist slamming against the door, "Troy! Do I have to tell you twice!!!? Get up! You're gonna be la-", I open the door and I immediately see a fist headed toward my face. And it hits me. *sigh*. "Ow! What the hell are you trying to do? Knock me into a coma!?" I say. "Who cares! Get up and get ready for school!" she said. Sophie Mendoza, my younger sister. She declared war against me a couple years ago... She wakes me up every morning and I end up having a bruise after every each one. Every seventh grader in school adores her. She's pretty. Too pretty that there would be no guy who wouldn't have a crush on her. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got it. No need to injure me..." I reply. "Whatever", she snubs.
I proceed to the dining table. Breakfast is ready usually, I cook the breakfast. But I see that today is gonna be different. My parents are working overseas, we are here in Japan while my parents are in Canada. I live with my sister and her only. Some kids in school would even accuse me of incest because of that. I sit on the chair of the dining table. I grab my chopsticks and start eating. "What are you doing!", she punches me on my right shoulder. "W-w-w-w-where did you come from!?" I ask. "I'm a Kung Fu black belter... Or, I should just call myself a ninja... And I attack by surprise", she says with an evil laugh. "Anyway, what the hell are you doing!?" she punches again. "Eating", I say. "You have no manners! We are in Japan you're supposed to say 'Thanks for the food' before eating!" she yells. Jeez, this girl has issues. "I know! I'm a Filipino! You are too! At least do our manners even just in the house!" I reply. "If that's the case, then why are you using chopticks?" she asks. Oh crap. That's totally not Filipino like. "Well, I have to practice using it since we're in Japan." I reply. She raises her foot and thrusts it toward my shoulder, "Liar". "I know you since I was born. You're already a chopsticks expert!" she says. Well, she's right. I'm fucked. I look to my left and see a flying slipper headed for my head. "OW!"
Jeez, why do I have to be with such a stubborn sister... Well, it's better than nothing I guess. *The school bell rings*. Shit, I have to run.
"Okay everyone! You are given one hour to answer the Science test. Remember, no erasures. This is a machine checked test. Good Lu-", our homeroom teacher says as I slam the door open hyperventilating. "Mr. Mendoza! You're late.", he says. "Sorry Sr, I ran into traffic.", I reply. It's obviously a fake reason since first, I don't own a car. Second, my apartment is within walking distance from the school. There's no way he would accept that reason. "Very well, take a seat and start the test." he says. *sigh* What a freaking relief. Now I know how stupid my homeroom teacher can get.
"Time's up!" my homeroom teacher announces to the class. "What! I need more time! C'mon!" the class utters. I stand up to hand over my test paper, "I'm done!". "Hey! No fair!", the class utters. "It is quite fair. If you just study everyday, this test would be damn easy. All you people do is play around and date." I say right to the class. "You're too honest Troy", says the teacher. Nobody ever sees things in my point of view.
Nerd kid, ew, Nerds suck!, You suck! Get out of my life!, Get away, nerd. These are the things that I always hear here at school. Nothing good happens. It's the same routine over and over again. It's happening too much that I'm already getting used to it. People don't realize what huge impact nerds did to our society. Nerds are smart. Facebook, Google, other sites, they probably won't exist without nerds. My life sucks, but I have that fact to look up to. Instead of killing myself, I do have a reason to live. I want to make a huge impact on the society. This time, to transform people.
I open the door to the clubroom. The Nerd Society. "Hey dude! Welcome back to our paradise!", says my friend James. James is a fellow Filipino. Just like me. He's been here longer than I have. I've been here since I was eight. He's been here since he was four. He's tall. Taller than I am. I'm just as tall as an average Japanese guy. "Sup dude! Playing Xbox again?" I reply. Outside this clubroom, I'm always depressed. Alone, desperate. Waiting for someone to come to my life and change it. While when I'm here, I feel okay, normal. I'm not just a nerd. I'm bipolar I guess. "Yeah! Just couldn't stop!", says the person infront of the TV, Daisuke. Daisuke is Japanese. Duh, you can tell by his name. He's mysterious... Nobody knows who he really is... I ask his birthday, he says January 18. I ask again, he says October 26. He's weird. "Okay then! This is kind of lonely. A club with three members. How unpleasant.", I say. "It's fine. At least we got a club. None of the other clubs would accept us right? And we're all required to be in a club.", says Daisuke. "Yeah, that's right. They all reject us for being nerds. Well you know what bitches! This is who we are! Deal with it!", says James. "James, you don't have to be so loud.", says Daisuke. "Hey Troy! Have you heard the news?", he says. News? What news? "What news?" I reply. "There's gonna be a transfer student tomorrow. Rumors are, she's from America." he says. "Finally! Someone I can speak straight English with!", I reply. "From rumors I heard, her three sizes are -", James says as Daisuke covers his mouth. "Fucking pervert." I say quietly.
I look up at the sky as I walk home and I realize, the Universe is huge. People say, nerds, you don't belong here, you don't belong anywhere. Well, the Universe is huge. Those people can have their fun, hotel rooms, houses, and bedrooms but they can't have the gift of success. Those people who always fail in exams, homework, and academics. They don't realize. Without it, they won't be able to get anywhere at the rate they're going. Why be sad of being a nerd if we have an advantage over them. The Universe is huge. Us nerds can mark something big in the Universe. As I keep walking, a taxi cab stops beside me. The passenger rolls down the window, "Hi! Good evening, so-or-y to- bo-ther you. Do you- know English?" she says in Japanese. "Yeah. I can speak fluently." I reply. "Oh good. Okay. Do you know where the Takuda Apartments are?" she asks. I can't concentrate on what she's saying because of her beauty. She's blonde, she's shorter than me by a couple of inches... I can tell without seeing her full body. "Yeah. Just take a U-turn here and make a right turn on the next intersection. Go straight ahead and you'll see the apartment." I reply. "Oh, I see. Hey, umm can I ask you a favor?" she asked. "Yeah. Sure." I say. Man, I don't know this girl but my tongue is moving on it's own. "Thanks. Can you tell the driver what you just said in Japanese? I'm not really good at it." she says. Well, that's a small favor. I can do it. "Okay." I nod and tell the driver. "Thanks!" the girl said as the driver makes a U-turn.
"You're late by two minutes!", my demon sister says. "Jeez! Sorry! I ran into something important!", I reply. Important huh... "Anyway, you got to cook dinner!", she says. "Yeah, yeah, yeah." I reply. "Oh, and make an extra one. I invited someone to eat with us." she says. "Really? Who?", "Our brand new neighbor.", she says.
