Chapter 23: Learning with Marva

Marva, Calix, and I leave the tent and walk our way through the camp. As we walk by I notice Meira and Theon playing together. Once they see me walk by they jump up and walk at my sides. As I walk by everyone waves hello and stares at me in amazement. It is so wird getting so much attention after being locked up in a cell for two years. 

I walk through the camp searching for the training center and equipment. I have no clue where I am going. I am just mindlessly walking around searching for anyone to help me. Nys spots me and runs over to where I am. 

"Where are you going." Nyx wraps his arm around my shoulder. 

"I'm looking for a target to practice harnessing lightning." Nyx thinks for a second.

"How about the archery range, they have targets." I smile up at Nyx. 

"Do you want me to join you." Nyx asks 

"I would love that." Nyx takes my hand in his and leads me to the archery range. 

About five targets are all lined up ready for someone to shoot arrows at. No one else is here since bow and arrow is not a common weapon to use in battle. I am thankful for that though, I don't want anyone else watch me try and harness my power. 

 I look down at Marva for a clue on how to use my electricity. She looks up at me and then focuses on the target in front of her. I small ball of lightning forms on her chest. I hear gasps from behind me. I turn around and a small crowd has formed around us including Cassian, Azriel, Lorcan, and Fenrys.

Marva just focuses on the archery target and sends a bolt of lightning towards it, setting the target on fire. Marva steps back and motioned for me to try. I take a deep breath and close my eyes, concentrating on my power. 

I feel sparks ignite through my body and flow through my fingers. I open my eyes and lightning sparks glow at my fingertips. I put up my hands as if I am holding a ball and a small orb of lightning floats between my hands. 

I concentrate hard, trying to focus on the power inside me. The sparks grow and comes together to form a small ball of lightning. Gasps can be heard from all around me, but I am not done showing off yet. Lighting inches up my arms like ivy on a fence as I widen my hands, making the lighting ball even larger. I focused on my target and thrust my hands forward. The ball misses my target and lands straight in a tree behind the targets. 

The tree bursts into flames and everyone makes a shocked sound. Nyx looks at me with a stunned expression and I can hear Cassian struggle to hold in his laugh. I turn around and glare at Cassian, which just makes him fall to his knees in laughter. 

I turn back around and throw a ball of water at the fier using my water powers. Finally Cassian shuts up and I can try again. 

I take another deep breath and really concentrate on the target. Another ball forms in my hands and I look over at Nyx for reassurance. Nyx smiles at me and motions to the target. I smile back and focus back on my target. I force my hands forward at the target I am aiming for. The target flies back from the force of the hit and bursts into a giant flame, larger than the one Marvas's lightning ball made. 

The people in the crowd cheer me on and clapp and I turn towards Nyx who is smiling at me in adornment. Nyx lifts me in the air and I smile for the first time in a while. Nyx drops me back on the ground and smiles at me.

"I'm so impressed!" I hear proud scream and turn to see Cassian running up to me and once he gets to me he wraps me up in a hug. 

"Evalin that was amazing." I feel so proud of myself and I want to tell my dad all about what I just accomplished to do, but a yelling soldier interrupts my attempt me. 

"Evalin.... Evalin, aeril scouts just spotted the Spring Courts troops coming fully armed for us, what do we do?" Everyones attention is on my at this point, waiting for to command. I look at Nyx for for conformation and he nods at me, telling me to give them a command.

 "We fight them... and win" Everyone smiles and starts to get ready 

 "Warriors.... Prepare for war!"

I run to get changed into my black war leathers and find all my weapons. I am breathy heavy terrified for the battle ahead. I strap my sword to my back and my dagger on the outside of my thigh. I frantically run around looking for my boots. I finally find them in the middle of the wolves sleeping pile. 

 I zip up my boots and the wolves look at me expectantly. Theon and Meria start to whine and I feel so bad for them, but untimaty I know that it is unsafe for them to join me. 

"I'm sorry but only Marva is the only one with powers, so she is the only one coming with me" Now all the pups wine and my heart breaks.  

"i'm sorry but without your powers you might get hurt and don't want any of you getting hurt." They all look down at their paws in disappointment.

"I sorry." I bolt out of my tent and towards the stables with Marva and hot on my heels.
