Chapter 2

Griffin

“Griiiiiiiiiiifiiiiiiiin!” My best friend Jack charged at me from across the courtyard. Everyone around looked at him, the crazy red-headed kid, as he ran across the courtyard and pulled me into a bear hug.

“Grif, where were you all summer? I hardly saw you at all!” He shouted excitedly. God, his voice was loud. Kids kept shooting us funny looks, but Jack just ignored them. He was like that.

“Oh, you know, I was ill….” I trailed off.

Jack looked at me sceptically, “I’ve been your best friend since we were 5, I think I know when you’re lying.” He said matter-of-factly. I prayed silently that he wouldn’t pick up on what I’d been doing. Then he grinned foolishly. “Was it a girl?” I blushed, which he took as a yes.

“EVERYONE, GRIFFIN HAS A GIRLFRIEND! I THOUGHT I’D NEVER SEE THE DAY!!!! I’M SO PROUD OF YOU GRIF!!!!” Jack screamed to everyone within 50 metres. Great, social oblivion for another year. I checked to see if anyone had heard. A few of the popular kids were smirking and sniggering, and I got a few yells of “Nice going Grif!” from my other supposed friends.

Then I saw her. Cassidy Fiel. She was looking at me with a bemused expression from where she stood by her locker, a few metres away. She looked… different from when I last saw her. She was a weird one, Cassidy. She got into the school on scholarship, but no one knows what for. I mean, she was smart, but not child-prodigy smart. And for all I know she wasn’t that good at sport or music either. Still, I liked her. I mean, I really liked her, but I’d never asked her out. Damn, with her hair done like that she looked cuter than ever. It probably wouldn’t be too long before some guy- What? Just as I was thinking it, a guy came up to her and offered to carry her books.

I sighed in exasperation and headed to class, leaving Jack literally ROFLing about ruining my social life for the rest of the year.

Hey! I haven't uploaded for a while, sorry :L This chapter is really short, but I thought it'd be better to upload something than nothing (really busy tommorow :L) Next chapter will hopefully be longer, and will include Cass's point of view as well :)
