"Lizzie?"
"Hi Ammy." June turned and saw a little girl who was at most 10 years old. She had little blonde curls that hung around her adorable little toddler face.
June turned back to the girl who was apparently known as "Ammy".
"Ammy? Really?" The blonde boy spoke, and June couldn't help but laugh.
"It's Amethyste, okay? Lizzie's my sister and I can't help but wonder," She turned and looked at Lizzie, "How in the world did you get here?"
As Lizzie recounted her tale of following, then slipping into the trunk of the limo, June kept glancing over at the blonde boy. He was hilarious. He kept on doing these weird hand gestures, heckling, and asking the most obscene questions.
"Did you have a boyfriend at home?" He asked in one instance.
"No! Of course not!" Lizzie was blushing. "But your too old for me anyway."
"Oh, ouch." The boy laughed. "That hurts my feelings. Anyway, I'm Swipe."
June looked at him with a look of suspicion. "Swipe. Really?"
"That's the same thing I said about her!" He pointed at Amethyste. "Are you mocking me? Already? I've known you for a solid fifteen minutes and you're already mocking me." Swipe had a look of mock disbelief on his face, and June laughed.
"And what would your name be." Swipes strikingly blue eyes gazed at June.
"June. And you can't make fun of my name because there's nothing to make fun of."
"You sure?"
"Positive."
"So are you the sixth sister? If you look that good, I want to see May, or even April."
June was both flattered and annoyed.
"Stop. Just stop."
"Can't mama, you're angry spirit just encourages me more."
"Please don't call me that."
"What? Mama? Okay babe."
"No! Just June. Not mama, baby, or any other member of the family."
"Well technically I said-"
"Well technically, I'm going to punch you in the face if you don't stop picking on June." This time Carter spoke. He was threatening enough that Swipe stopped immediately.
"Okay." Swipe said after a long silence. "Let's go over names again." He pointed at each person as he spoke. "We have Skyler or Sky, Carter, June, Devin, Amethyste, and little Lizzie in the back. Welcome to your new life."
The tour was boring. The lab was cool but everything else was bland and gray. June would have to do something about that. A large Italian man showed them all the different sections of the compound. The cafeteria, the rooms, the lab, the training room, the gym, and numerous others.
After the tour was over, the guide told them that their bags were in their rooms already. Before going to her room, she went to the cafeteria. When the man behind the counter asked what she wanted, June answered with a question.
"What do you have?"
"We have anything, and everything. Old Gertrude here can fabricate any food you desire." He gestured to a large machine that looke like a coffee machine on steroids. It was about four and a half feet tall, and had an overhanging section over a flat plate.
"I'll have some chicken noodle soup."
"How much."
"Just a small portion please."
"You got it. If you need anything else, just ask."
"Will do, thanks."
The man held a small cup under Gertrude's overhanging section. A hole opened and soup dumped into the cup. The server put a spoon into the cup and handed it to her. June went and sat down.
Getting soup was a bad idea. It reminded her of the home that she missed. She should never have accepted the letter. But then, after thinking that, some part of her was happy she was here. She thought about her new "Friends". Devin, Sky, Amethyste, Carter, little Lizzie, and Swipe. She though a lot about Swipe.
She ate her soup and walked to her room. It was big. It was a large 20-by-20 foot square room, about the size of a school classroom. There was a king size bed in one corner with her bag sitting on it, a bookshelf that was about three feet high off the ground against the far wall. She noticed it was stocked with all of her favorite books, among others that she had never heard of. There had to be at least three hundred books in her room. Next to the head of the bed there was a oakwood desk with a large swivel chair pulled in on it. There was a little desk lamp on it, along with a little box that held what looked like one hundred sheets of paper standing upright. June walked over to the desk and opened a small drawer that made up the face of the desk. In it was a large assortment of pencils, pens, markers, and even crayons. She heard a knock on the door.
She walked over and answered it. It was Glass.
"Can I come in?" He said with his signature gruff voice.
"Sure." June stepped aside and he walked in. June closed the door. She sat on her bed, and he sat on the swivel chair.
"How do you like it here?" He asked.
"It's cool. The training center is really high tech, I could never train in there."
"You will be able to, if you choose to continue with the experiment. Now that you know what this is all about, we have decided to give each person a chance to leave. If you do want to, we will add in thought's and memories, and place evidence you were kidnapped and escaped. You could then continue your old life without interference."
"No way! I mean, I miss my friends and stuff, but who in their right mind wouldn't accept?!"
"Amethyste is out."
She almost mentioned Lizzie being sad, but she remembered how she snuck here, and he didn't know.
"What are you going to do?"
"We will have to delay the experiment and change her serum."
"Why?"
"The serum is designed for her specific genes. In order to make a new candidate, we need to make a new serum."
"What about her sister Lizzie?"
"How do you know about Lizzie?"
"Amethyste told me."
"Okay. I guess we could use her, but she's too young. She wouldn't know wether to accept the letter or not."
"But if you were to get her here, would you accept her?"
"Sure, but she would need to go into extensive training, for her powers would be the hardest to control."
"What if I told you she was already here?" June started twiddling her thumbs nervously.
"She's here? How did she get here?"
"She followed Amethyste to the meeting spot and snuck into the trunk."
"She was always a clever one. So you are going to stay?"
"Yes."
"Okay. Thank you."
"You're welcome." Glass got up and walked to the door.
"Oh, Commander?"
He turned around. "Yes?"
"Thanks for giving me so many books."
His wrinkled face crinkled when he smiled. "You're welcome."
He walked out and shut the door.
Maybe this place won't be so bad June thought as she closed her eyes and drifted off into a deep sleep.
