We're outside now on the sidewalk in front of the school. 'It's kinda grim out here' My inside voice says. There are 5 other kids out there waiting for the bus. I can't go with Gabi because we live too far apart.
As Gabi is running across the vacant street to Ruby's bright yellow Jeep she yells "Bye Heidi !" to me.
I yell back "Bye Gabi !"
It's getting cold now and I felt goosebumps up my arm. I started to slouch because my backpack is getting heavy. Taking my phone out of my big puffy winter coat to call mom , she's not picking up. I tried to call her again, still not picking up. I decided to just leave a voice message.
" Hey mom it's me Heidi since you aren't here and you're not picking up your phone I'll just catch a ride on the bus bye love you see you at home". With a worried expression on my face I put my phone back into my coat. My mom usually always picks up her phone. I stood there for about 3 minutes awaiting the bus.
