Everyone learns various things in the oddest ways. But something we all learned from our parents, teachers or even that aunt who talks about crap no one ever cares about is not to steal. Stealing can never be seen as a good act. But before you abandon this story and move on to find something more interesting, listen to how I learned about the consequences of stealing. And boy did it end bad for me.
I was about 6 or 7 when my family took a little trip to the big supermarket. It was a super huge one, with all those security cameras and scanners when you walked in. So me, my parents and my little sister were walking around when I found it. There it lied in the rack, looking so pink and perfect in its case. Its amazing aroma filled the room with glee. It was love at first sight. The stick of bubble gum I always wanted was finally there. I was ecstatic. I never wanted anything in my life this much. So me, being the broke kid I was, ran towards my father and ask him whether he could buy it for me. Like everything else he buys. He said 'Sure, I'll buy it for you once we're done with all the grocery shopping'. I was so happy. I couldn't wait to have my gum. But little did I know things were not always going as planned...
Once we were done with the boring shopping, I looked at my dad, making sure he bought my gum stick. But he hadn't. '''How could he do that to me? I trusted him with all my life and he betrayed me. Why Father? What did I simply do to deserve this kind of treason.' These thoughts scattered around my brain as I looked at my father, with a glare of furiousity. But I wasn't the kind of girl who would back out that easily. I always get what I wanted even though it wasn't the best way. I saw that while we were scanning our products, the gum sticks were there in the counter stand thingy. So with looking both ways to see if my path was clear, and snatched that gum stick under my gown. I quickly positioned it between my thighs and tried to act as naturally as possible. But now was the time to face my biggest barrier. The security scanner. With my whole body shaking with fear, I stepped through the scanner, expecting it to beep any time soon, catching me red-handed with my gum. But a miracle happened. It didn't make a single noise as I headed towards the door. With an evil grin on my face, I left, my mission accomplished...
We walked in the parking lot towards our car. At least my family did. I kinda wobbled, my legs crossed, as I attempted to walk as naturally as possible. But I don't think my parents might have bothered that much about my walking abilities, seeing that I was a weird kid. As I waddled with my gum stick under my dress, I started daydreaming of the possibilities I was able to do with this gum. 'I could eat it behind the door so my parents won't know', I thought as more thoughts started flooding in .'Or I could share it with my sis but she'll tattletale on me so I get in trouble.' The more I thought about the possibilities of eating my gum, the more I forgot it was there, under my dress. Then it came time to get in the car. My dad opened the door for me to get in and I obeyed, but I forgot the most important thing in the world. The gum...
As I put my foot up to get in the car, my gum fell in the ground in slow motion. It well and thud in the cement of the floor, lying there. All our eyes were on the gum. Later my parents looked at me, my mom shocked, my dad furious. I put on a fake smile, pretending that I hadn't stolen a gum stick from the supermarket. Later my mom and dad put me in the car, and drove off, leaving my poor bubble gum stick alone. They gave me a lecture about how bad stealing is and I promised I'll never do it again.
The moral of this story is, don't still guys. Jesus can see you. He'll make sure your gums drop. And I guess karma too. I wonder from time to time if that gum stick still lied in the parking lot and why I didn't simply ask dad to buy in a 25 cent chewing gum at the counter. Well, at least I don't steal. Sometimes...
