This poem was written in reference to the year 2020
COVID has really changed our ways of survival
All those times we've had to resort to assault rifles
And the days where we sat at home staring at our phones
And still we were telling ourselves how we felt so alone
COVID changed a lot in the world but it didn't change it all
If we felt lonely then we should have just given our friends a call
But we still chose not to and we can't explain why
Let's focus and try to see what's going on through someone else's eyes
Social injustice, it has taken the reins
Racism soars high like a full on airplane.
May 25th was the death of George Floyd
When the world fell into a deep depressing void,
Protests began for the man who lost his life
And the world came United to fight with their strife
"Black Lives Matter" rose to fame
And just like that now everyone knows his name
The depression rates rise
More and more tears come pouring from our eyes
More and more people committing suicide
But no ones there to help these people redecide
Everyone has lost their skill of communication
And we can no longer can commit to cooperation
And so we hide deep in our imagination
Where we feel safe, in our self-isolation
People dying left and right
"If I don't die today than I might die tonight"
Fear has hollowed our hearts out clean
"What will happen if I don't get this vaccine?"
We feel so alone that we can't live our lives
"Oh please grandpa, oh please don't die"
Anxiety has become part of our routine
"What if I die before I turn eighteen?"
"Loneliness can kill" was once wisely said
We don't believe it, yet we can't get it out of our head
If being alone really means that we can't be happy
Then what's the point of productivity when we'd rather sit there sadly
The point of love is that it comes in when it's time
But it may never arrive after we've hit it's deadline
Because love was made to be for all
But some people are still left alone until nightfall
A conclusion means nothing if this year may never end
We know we've lost when a number can condescend
We felt so bad about how we couldn't connect
And so we guided our minds into a retrospect
And then we talk to ourselves with tears running down our face
Thinking about death and picturing it like if it was a race
I always thought I was the good guy
Maybe it's time I leave and say goodbye
I'm sorry
