It was these fleeting nights when the moon and sun are high and bright at the same time. Like many things in life, these summer nights wouldn't last much longer. I sat quietly criss-cross near the edge of the roof outside my window.
The window, of which I exited onto the roof from, still wide open. It's light purple curtains fluttering in the wind. Past the window to my room, the door creaked open.
The quiet pattering of paws ran through the room out of my eye sight. My window sill creaked as a large gray, fluffy cat hefted itself up and out the window, joining me on the roof.
"Hey Bub, enjoying the cool summer night?" I ask my cat as he walks nearer to me, making a tiny squeak of content as my fingers drag through his fur.
"Beautiful out isn't it?" I asked him quietly. "Years could pass by and I'd happily sit here, especially with you by my side Bub." I gingerly pick him up and set him in my lap.
Silence; other than the melodious sound of crickets and cicadas, the occasional croak of the frog.
My door creaked on un-oiled hinges and I look back to see who had entered, scared of it being one of my parents.
The room was dark but it's hard to mistake his aura for anyone else's. My brother neared the window and looked out at me and Bub, perched on the side of the roof.
"You know what mom and dad said, you shouldn't be out here Moon." He said, worry and concern creasing his face.
"I'm fine, look Bub is here with me. We all know he'd rescue me if anything ever happened." I whine out while holding up the fluff ball.
Hoseok let out an extended sigh as though he was annoyed, I knew he wasn't. Pushing the window farther up he pulled himself up and out the window to join me on the roof.
"You know mom and dad think unreasonably." I whispered out. I looked back up at the moon. "I'm fine. Maybe they don't want me to be out here because they know I'm having more fun than they are, all coped up in the house."
Hoseok shuffled across the flat roof toward me and sat down. His comforting and energetic aura surrounded me. He let out a small chuckle at my statement. "Maybe. That could be the reason for sure."
"Well why else would you suppose so! The house is brand new, they just built it. It's not going to cave in, I'm sure of it." I stated matter-of-factly. "We'll be perfectly fine."
Hoseok just sat there quietly, turning his head to look up at the moon. "Ya know, sometimes you truly do remind me of the moon." He muttered out. "I'm not sure what it is, but you just do."
I scoffed at that, "I'm not sure if I should be offended that you're comparing me to the moon, or if I should be grateful." I rushed out. "I could totally understand you calling Bub here a moon; I mean look at him, he's gray, and round, and definitely just absolutely moon like. Or you comparing yourself to the sun. The joy that you bring to people is so similar to how people feel during the summer."
"You're right, Bub looks like a moon. But I wasn't saying that you looked like one. How did you explain that I'm like the sun?" He asks, turning his head to look at me.
"Well you're just so joyful and bright. And awesome! And everyone's thankful for you. . . Like the sun. No ones thankful for the moon, no one except for me it seems. ." I answer quickly, unsure of my words.
"See! You're saying personality traits, not physical!"
He hollers, then quickly slaps a hand over his mouth as he hears the stairs creak.
"Are mom and dad not asleep yet?" I whisper. He whips his head side to side as to say no. I facepalm and sit still, trying to listen to where they, whichever parent it was, was.
Silence stretches on again until I hear a door softly close and I let all of my breath out in a thankful sigh.
"They didn't catch us!" I do a little dance, careful as to make sure that I don't disturb Bub. I beam brightly at Hoseok and high-five him quietly.
"You're the literal physical incarnation of the sun." I say after some silence.
"Oh that's right!" He gasps out, as though remembering his train of thought. "You said that no one is thankful for the moon didn't you?" I nod quickly. "Well I'd say otherwise. So many are thankful for it! It's so beautiful and graceful. It graces people with a sort of sweet silence. It combats the bright sun, because, God knows, sometimes it gets annoying."
He looks over at me and smiles sweetly, reaching out to ruffle my hair. "And you, my dear sister, are the human version of the moon." He leans in and hugs me tightly then pulls away.
"People care about you, Moon."
