I woke up and shouted with excitement, for today I would be able to touch multiple dragon eggs, and one might even hatch for me!
I quickly dressed into a long dress with many different colors and patterns. My mind busily thought of Riders and dragons and more. I could become a Rider! I thought excitedly. A real Rider! I could have a chance to ride a dragon and learn a different language and be able to cast spells and all sorts of things!
When I got done dressing, I walked outside into the hallway. It was completely white, all quartz except for the doors, which were made out of a dark wood that I thought looked good with the quartz. Sometimes, in between the pillars that didn't have doors in between them, there were paintings, some of the tragic history of the dwarves or their gods, some dragons, and some past kings of the dwarves. I thought they were all interesting.
When I stepped out of my room, a man was standing outside my door. When he saw me, he asked, "Miss Hitra, may I take you to the dragon egg touching area?"
"Yes, please," I said calmly, although internally I felt like a million squirrels were jumping around inside me.
When we got to the area where the dragon eggs were, he walked inside with me. It was dark, except for a few dark lamps, a skylight, and the light from the hallway. The floor was risen by about a foot into a shiny black stone(obsidian?) with dents in it that were supposed to be nests for the eggs. No one was in the room except for who I recognized as King Nirmuc.
"Your Majesty, excuse me. I have not been here before and did not expect you to be here." But you should have, me, part of me thought to the other.
"Rise," he said peacefully. "It is all right, Hitra. I just want to be here if someone does hatch an egg. Well, you are allowed to touch them. Go on."
I walked over to the first egg, which was brown. Hmm... I thought. I kind of wouldn't want a brown dragon. I walked to the next eggs, which were many different colors.
When I touched an orange egg, something moved in the back of my mind. When I looked back there, it was gone. I was pretty sure it wasn't the dragon inside the egg because I had read many books about dragons, but none of them said anything about that when touching the egg, so I assumed maybe someone in Du Vrangr Gata was trying to tell me something, but not the dragon inside the egg.
"I've touched all of them," I told King Nirmuc.
"Thank you," he said. "I will inform you if or when it hatches."
I bowed and left.
