It was barely six A.M. when the call came in. Lilly Monroe was not a fan of mornings, but that was the job. She was one of the only detectives in the Springdale police department and was proud of what she did. Blinking her eyes, a couple of times before rolling out of bed, she was now ready to start the day. She went through her usual motions combing her red curly hair, until it looked somewhat presentable. She then pulled on her dark blue Levi's and a green shirt. Slipping on her 'practical shoes' she went over to the safe she kept on her dresser to receive her gun and badge. Walking into the kitchen she grabbed a piece of toast with jam before locking her door and heading towards the crime scene.

When she arrived on scene, she saw that CSU had already gotten there and was in the middle of collecting evidence. Looking around she noticed her usual busy town laid quiet now. Even her godfather's bakery was dark, which was strange because she knew he was supposed to be there. As she got closer to the scene, she saw her best friend, and medical examiner, Jane standing next to the body, her eyes meeting Lilly's in a sad moment. Getting up Jane walked towards her.

"Lil' what are you doing here?" Jane asked meeting her at the yellow tape.

"What do you mean Jane? Why wouldn't I be here?" Lilly answered not knowing

It was a quiet night as Amelia locked up her father's bakery and walked to her car. It was well after midnight and there wasn't a soul in sight. She didn't normally work so late, but with tax season around the corner; she wanted to make sure that every penny was accounted for. Feeling as though she was being watched, she picked up her pace. Looking over her shoulder, she saw nothing but darkness.

"Hello?" she asked to a dark abyss. No one answered. She turned to unlock her car as a cloaked figure came out of the shadows. Taking her by surprise. They wrapped a something around her neck. She fought as hard as she could, but the cloaked stranger was just too strong. The hood slipped back as she fought, and for a second, she looked into dark eyes. Before everything then went black.

The next morning Peter Lewis did as always. He got up at 4:30 expecting that Amelia was still asleep in her room. He walked to work, taking in the morning air. He had let Amelia have the car the night before, she would work so late sometimes. Even in the sleepy town of Springdale; he worried about her safety. He thought it odd the car wasn't in the driveway, but maybe she had fallen asleep at her desk as she sometimes did. As he approached the bakery, he saw the old Chevy truck still parked in its spot. Fully prepared to go into the office and wake her up. He was headed for the store when he saw something on the ground. He couldn't make it out from the distance but as he got closer, he realized it was Amelia. He ran to her side and pulled her into his arms. Her hands were covered in bruises, a scarf tied around her neck. Her brown hair a halo on the top of her head. Her eyes closed, making it look like she was asleep. But he knew she would not wake up. He called 911 as tears rolled down his face, not ready to let go of his little girl.

Detective Lilly Monroe was called to the scene. She knew Amelia her entire life. She was her godfather's daughter, an unrelated cousin, and the only thing close to a sister Lilly ever had. Amelia had a rough life; her father was a workaholic and her mother left when she was two. That meant a lot of sleepovers, and many dinners at the Monroe's. Amelia tried to leave Springdale once, she made it all the way to New York. Where she got a full scholarship to NYU. She was a business major; she had always wanted to rule the world one day. When her dad revealed that he was sick; she didn't think twice about putting her future on hold.

As she stepped across the yellow tape, she said a silent prayer for Amelia. Composing herself as she walked towards her coworkers.

"Hey, Jane what do you got?" She asked her best friend and medical examiner Jane Creed. Jane was short maybe 5'5" with dark hair and square glasses that hid her beautiful brown eyes.
