"You ready honey?" my mom asked as she handed me my suitcase. "Yep! I am so excited to go back to Camp Jorvik!"
Ever since I had gone to Camp Jorvik the year before I had been waiting and waiting for the time to come to see Popcorn again! Popcorn, a male Clydsdale gelding, was my best friend. He was the most beautiful horse I had ever seen. The past year when I had gone to camp we had gone on an adventure for sure.
I had grabbed a warm waffle to eat on the bus for the bus ride that was going to be quite a while since I lived in Jorvik City. "You sure honey, did you grab your toothbrush?" my mother asked as she put in some books to read in my suitcase. "Yes yes yes I did," I said, "I am going to be fine!" I said smiling. "Ok just.." my mother sighed, "You're going away for the whole summer!" "Yeah yeah," I said laughing.
My dad came clambering down the stairs "alright kiddo you ready the bus is going to be here in five minutes," I smiled, "Let me go say goodbye to my siblings," I told them.
I hurried up the stairs and walked down the hallway to my bedroom which I shared with my younger sister Amelia. "Bye Amelia! I have to leave," I told her as I sat down next to her. "Bye!" she said hugging me tight, "I am going to miss you!" "Same!" I told her.
By the time I had said goodbye to my younger brother Will who was six and my older brother Peter the bus had arrived. "Bye honey we will miss you so much!" my parents chorused as they waved. "Bye!" I called back as I climbed onto the bus suitcase and all.
The bus ride was pretty boring. Me and Elsa sat in one of the middle seats this time. Elsa was my best friend at Jorvik Camp and actually I met her on this very bus last year when I had gone to Jorvik Camp for the first time.
"Hi Diana! Are you excited?" Elsa asked, smiling. "Yep! You?" I asked, sliding into the seat next to her. "Am I ever!" she said. We both laughed.
Me and Elsa had been friends forever and had met plenty of times during the summer. It was great to have Elsa back and it was a big relief she was no longer scared of horses since the last time we went she dislocated her knee falling off Ellie her connemara horse but that's a long story.
The bus ride was pretty boring except for the boys aiming rubber bands at us. That was pretty interesting when the bus driver and some of the other bus drivers helpers found out.
By the time we had been riding in the bus for at least two hours everybody was starting to get restless and some of us nauseous so it was a good thing we reached the camp when we did. It was great seeing everybody's faces again. Some of the faces I recognized while other faces were brand new.
I met a new counselor named Emily. She was waving a sign that said Gotlands come with me So I hurried over to the Gotland counselor. "Hi girls I am Emily! Now I am going to read your name off this list if you hear your name say "present" got it girls?" We all nodded. "Ok, first on my list is Lily..." Emily announced. "Here!" Lily said, raising her hand. "Good okay next on my list is..." Emily went on.
By the time we had finished attendance and we had found our Gotland cabin we were all exhausted. Me and Elsa raced to the bunk that was free. "Yay! We get to sleep in the same bunk again!" Elsa announced smiling. "Yep! Just like last year!" I said. "Do you want top or bottom?" Elsa asked. "Oh whatever you want!" I told her. "Great, I will take the bottom for sure!" Elsa said laughing. For some reason Elsa liked sleeping on the bottom bunk but that is fine with me considering I love sleeping on top bunks.
I climbed onto the top bunk and pulled my suitcase to my bunk bed as well. "Ok," I said as I pulled out my pillow. I pulled out my favorite stuffy and my favorite book to read. By the time I had finished pulling out my stuff from my suitcase and had put away my clothes on a shelf next to my bed it was already 8:30 and that meant lights out.
The rest of the night was pretty restless since it was hotter than usual and the cabin had no air conditioning so that meant barely any sleep.
