Makoto pov

It had been a week since the first class trial. A week since our situation had begun to become all too real. It was like a bad dream that we couldn't wake from, like a horror movie we were trapped in.

Sometimes we'd forget our situation, we'd have fun as friends, but every time monokuma came into the room we received a grim reminder of the mess we were in. Just once I wish we could have a good day without the animatronic teddy bear ruining it.

Well.. I guess it wasn't all bad. I had friends to talk to very morning...sorta. I talked to Kirigiri everyday about the mysteries of the school, and I talked to the others about the losses of our friends.

Byakuya hadn't come to breakfast today, but that wasn't abnormal behavior for him, and he could always be found in the library. I finished my breakfast and made my way to the second floor, although he usually skipped breakfast I still liked to check on everybody in the morning.

Byakuya pov:

I was reading up on the Genocide Jack case when I realized it was 10 minutes past when breakfast was scheduled to end. Strange, Makoto usually was here by now to check up on him.

"I guess he's not coming today." I murmur to myself.

As if on cue he opens the door to the library. I ignore him and continue reading until I hear a, "Byakuya?" come from the other side of the room. I look up and see Makoto standing there,

"What do you need Makoto?" I ask flatly.

"Well I don't necessarily *need* anything, I was just making sure you were ok."

"And why would I not be?" I reply, my voice monotone.

"I didn't mean to offend you I just wanted to make sure everybody was still alive" he chuckles sadly.

"I see, well you best check everyone else then. I am fine." I say.

"I actually already checked on everybody else, since you're on the second floor."

"Well, you've checked on me, so you best be on your way now."

"Actually, I was hoping to talk to you Byakuya." he says quietly.

"About what Makoto?" I must admit I was slightly surprised he had chosen to speak with me rather than leave.

"Do you really view this all as just a game, or do you miss them?" he asks sadly.

"This is a game. However I do not view this as *just* a game." I reply.

"What do you mean?" he asks, clearly intrigued.

"I don't view this as *just* a game. I view it as a game sure, but there is much more to it. It is meant to spread despair, therefore It's like when you bet on a card game. You bet on the game before you play it, correct?"

"Uh- yeah!"

"The outcome of the game isn't the only thing you focus on when you bet, you also focus on the aftermath of the match, or what you get out of it." I explain.

"Oh, so it's like Monokuma is betting on us all giving in to despair?" he asks.

"Exactly." I reply.

"Well that didn't answer the other half of my question though." he says.

"Hm?" I ask, as I'd forgotten the original question.

"Are you sad for them, do you miss them? Do you care that they died?" he asks, tears now forming in his eyes thinking about his late friends.

"I do." I say.

"R-Really?" he asks surprised.

"Yes. Although I don't voice my opinion, you could say I am affected by them no longer being with us." I admit quietly.

Makoto looked genuinely surprised that I cared, it almost upset me. No. It did not. I do not care about what commoners think about me. I tell myself firmly.

"Ok I guess I'll head back to my dorm now, it was nice talking Byakuya!" he calls as he leaves the room.

I sit staring at the door for a few seconds, before returning to my reading, what a peculiar boy I seem to find myself thinking about, Makoto...I wonder what he thinks of me...though I don't care.
