Chapter 31: If You Love

Start from the beginning

Her face inches closer to me, the sensation of her lips on the flesh of my left cheek silencing me nearly instantly. A soft titter escapes her partially opened lips and she leans back just enough to give me space to breathe. "Admitting it was a mistake and the changes you've made prove how worthy you are of me. We all make mistakes- we aren't that different from where I am standing- well," She gestures down to her position, "Sitting." She leans back further, allowing her back to fall against the seat. Her hand reaches behind her, fingers grasping around the seatbelt buckle and yanking it across her body to secure her. "So where are we going?"

Still partially bewildered by her action and the sincerity of her fearless words, I too reach quietly for my own seatbelt until I process her question. I click the buckle into it's place at the same time as hers, meeting her gaze once more. "It's a surprise, Angel."
---------------------------------------

She loves pop songs and dancing and bad trash TV. My left arm, joined together at our fingers that she had willingly laced together during the poorly written but greatly filmed movie, lifts along with hers and moves my wrist in a circular motion. The hint goes unnoticed the first time as she stars upward with furrowed eyebrows at the simple notion. But the second time she sees the twist of my wrist, she catches on with a brief laugh and spins herself beneath our joined hands. I then proceed to move my entire arm in the same circular motion, forcing her to continue to twirl. She shrieks in amusement and I begin to hum that catchy song I can't get from my head that's always reminded me of her although she sent it to me for Moon.

My arm lowers the second she tugs on my hand and I lightly yank back, catching her in my chest when she stumbles over her feet, dizzied from her spinning. Her left hand falls palm first against my chest while my unoccupied right hand places itself on her waist to help steady her unbalanced self. Our hands remain joined, something her eyes drift over to before they lift up to gaze at me. There's a dopey grin across her lips and after a second of staring at one another, giggles erupt from her lips. The golden light from the setting sun graciously drenches the side of her face, highlighting every beautiful feature of hers before me. "You're absolutely breathtaking." Her head tucks itself into the side of my neck, eyelashes slightly tickling the skin there as she closes her eyes. Has a hard time accepting a good compliment.

I continue to hum the song from earlier by Forest Blakk, swaying the pair of us side to side. Her hand draws upward, over my shoulder and hooking her arm around the back of my neck. Her fingers laced between mine hook around the sides of my fingers, giving a light squeeze as she moves along with me. My hand at her waist slides around so my arm rests fully across her back and I step forward. A very soft gasp leaves her lips but she says nothing else to raise concern, so I pause a moment to ensure she is okay. She tugs on my hand nearly immediately, noticing the sudden halt of my movement. I fall back into step with her, humming the tune while allowing my eyes to peer down at her face.

Her eyes are still shut, the tip of her nose lightly pressed against the space where my neck meets my collarbone and she's completely flush against me. "Thank you for this, E. It has been really nice." She whispers, her eyes fluttering open after a moment. I sense the shift of weight on her feet and note the sign she is going to actively pull away from me. Her head slides a bit to clear my chin where it's been tucked under for the last few minutes, before she lifts it to face me. I lean forward, pressing my lips to the center of her forehead in hopes she would read my intentions clearly, rather than just making an assumption that this is a one time, casual thing.

Her complexion brightens with pink splotches and her eyes glance off to the side. "I would like to do it again. If you would be okay with that?" I suggest and she nods, though I quickly follow with, "Although we aren't quite done yet." Her eyebrows furrow in confusion as her eyes return to meet my gaze. I simply grin at her, lightly tugging on her hand to direct us forward to the car.
