"Hey, sorry I'm late" I walked in on the team huddled around the lounge area laughing with each other. My heels clicked on the ground as I got closer, holding my leather jacket in my arms.
"Glad you decided to join us. Hope it was worth missing the actual party doing whatever it is you thought was better than hanging out with your extremely gorgeous billionaire of a boyfriend," Tony remarked as he walked over to me, meeting me before the couch that Dr. Cho had been resting on.
"Ha ha," I mocked while pulling him in by his tie to place a chaste kiss on his lips.
"Why doesn't lady (y/n) take a turn?" Thor calls out from behind.
"Take a turn on what?" I walked around, taking the seat next to Helen. Tony gently placed his hands on my shoulder as I kicked off my heels. "What did I miss?"
"We're trying to figure out the trick to getting Thor's hammer up. There's no way it's just some majestical voodoo shit," Clint spits out.
"I don't think I'm the one who's going to answer that question for you," I laughed out.
"I'll try it," a younger voice was heard from behind me. I slowly turned around to a teenage girl, 16... maybe 17.
"Okay what?" I furrowed my eyebrows and turned to the team. No one else seemed phased by this little intruder but me.
"Right. (Y/n), this is the new intern. She's apparently been trying to get a hold of us for quite some time." I turned back to face the kid as Tony explained further. "Her persistence is what got her here. She's here for the opportunities; something about college applications."
My eyes were glued to her, but she didn't oppose any threat. It was more like she had one of those familiar faces. I know her somehow. I nodded in understanding as my eyes followed her around the table. She stopped at Mjolnir and seemed hesitant to the touch. Just before she laid a finger on the handle, I narrowed my eyes trying to peer into her mind through telepathy. However, I was blocked out immediately. I was taken aback, but kept my reaction subtle. While she and the others were occupied, I conversed lowly with Tony to get insight.
"Quite the kid huh?" I interrogated, my eyes never leaving her she she gripped at the hammer and took in a deep breath.
"You read my mind. There's something about her."
"Yeah..." I watched as she lifted the hammer with ease and looked over at Tony and I as if she was waiting on our reactions. Only ours. My mouth was held agape, knowing none of us could've lifted it so easily. Even Steve struggled to do so. Everyone's eyes were wide in shock with silence filling the room. Thor's face was priceless considering he's the last person who thought a teenage girl would be able to lift Mjolnir.
"Well, that answers that," Tony breaks the silence.
"Wait. First day, intern girl figures out the code and super soldier Steve Rogers can only make it budge? How'd you do it?" Barton tries. Before the poor girl could speak, Thor stands up and lays out his hand. The kid places Mjolnir in his grasp and answers for her.
"It's simple. You're all not worthy. Except you," the god of thunder shares a friendly smile to new girl here as the room fills with annoyed grunts. As everyone talks amongst themselves, I walk up to the girl and place a hand on her shoulder.
"Hi... can I talk to you in private?"
She nods without question. She's either naive or is confident enough she can lie her way through a telepath. She knows what we're all capable of if she's up here joining the after party, so how is she so calm.? Where are the first day jitters? Once we've isolated ourselves by the staircase, she sat on the steps, eyes glued to the team.
