First of all, I'd like to say that both vampires and cats make a hiss sound when they get frustrated. So in a way vampires are similar to cats. This theory is helped by the fact that werewolves are similar to dogs, who are commonly portrayed as the enemy of cats, while a werewolf is a vampires enemy.
Also, in the process of hissing you open your mouth to the point that if you had fangs they would be easily visible. When a vampire feels threatened or is about to fight they would hiss to show off their toothy weaponry.
