Recap:

Jess squeezed my hand knowingly yet I was to numb to feel, 'you don't have to', she whispered to me,

'Yes I do', I replied, knowing that refusal would lead too many awful questions and attention that I didn't want, not ever again.

++++++++++

You can do this I thought, we all had to jump in and swim to the side, easy, huh.  Jess was in front of me and I watched as she elegantly flung herself off the side, just copy Jess , my toes touched the edge.  I was shaking but not from cold, my breath ripped at the air desperate to find oxygen.  I closed my eyes.

Then I felt a hand touch me, a gut wrenching scream I barely recognised as my own pierced the air as the memory flashed through my eyes and 'Kie..' was all I heard of jess's scream until the icy liquid consumed my body and blocked all oxygen from my lungs and, the world fell silent.

+++'Blue eyed guy's' POV+++

Something was very wrong, I watched her fragile body shake violently and the terror that burned fiercely behind her eyes.  She can't jump in like that she'd kill herself, I reached over and to touch her arm, about to tell her she didn't have to jump but as soon as my hand made contact her icy skin a heart-shattering scream cut through the air and I watched shocked as her slender body tumbled towards the water.

'Kiera!' someone shouted

I didn't react instantly, expecting her to resurface, but then I heard someone take a shocked breath and screech, 'SHE CAN'T SWIM SHE...' I didn't catch the end as I dove in after her, beyond shocked now I was petrified for her, I was frantically searching for her in the darkness unable to open my eyes for fear of the pain that chlorine would cause, she had fallen to the very bottom of the pool, I managed to securely wrap my arms around her frail body and pulled her towards the surface, praying as my lungs were screaming for oxygen I had been under a long time- too long.

Finally I surfaced dragging her unconscious body behind me, I sped towards the side,

'Everyone OUT!', I ordered, climbing up and dragging her limp body to safety, 'go get changed', a shocked silence had fallen over the crowd then they all hurriedly escaped from the scene to get changed.

I lay her down on the side, my tense body relaxed a fraction at I looked at her God even in this state she was beautiful, her pale skin glowing against the silky mess of her chestnut hair and, WHAT!

Once I realised that she was in fact  breathing, raggedly and harshly, but breathing none the less, I let out a breath I was unaware that I had been holding and felt a tear of releaf tricle down my face.  I was unbelievably scared for this girl I had never had to do anything like that before and never wanted to have to ever again.  I lay her down, not waning letting go of her completely yet as I focused on the fact that her heart was still beating to help re-start mine, I was surprised when I heard a sob behind me,

'I t-told her she did-dn't have t-to', a week sounding voice sobbed behind me, I turned to face a distraught red haired girl shaking and gazing at what I presumed was her friends body lying unconscious in my arms.

'I didn't a-atualy kn-now she c-coldn-'t swim i-it just se-emed r-reasonable,' She continued not once taking her eyes off her friend.

'Hey it's ok,' I reassured her surprised how calm my voice was when I had an unconscious child in my arms on my first day teaching here.

'It's not your fault, go and get changed while I take her to the medical room then I'll send for you to keep her company when she wakes up, ok?' I continued,
