Book 2
_______
6 Months After the events in Book 1
Felicity was long gone or so Jessica's brain kept trying to tell her. Yet for some unfathomable reason her heart brought her to the town square every day. Maybe it was because she wasn't over the loss of her sister or maybe it was her way of rebelling against her mother. But whatever the reason that caused Jessica to come sit by her crystallized sister every day, she loved it.
On this particular day Jessica's pale cheeks were a nice rosy red due to the chill that arrived with Winter and the state of her already messy dark brown hair wasn't helped by the crazy wind. She arrived in the square just after 4 that afternoon after making some excuse to her mother."Hey sis" She panted but something was different. Today the square was empty and the silence echoed through the large park not that it bothered Jessica. She sat down opposite her sister and those who fought alongside her.
Jessica sighed "Guess what? Mum says that this is the last time I can come and talk to you because the neighbours are talking. That won't stop me though, I'll still sneak out. I mean, you're my sister. I can't just abandon you. I-"
The sound of a young girl crying stopped Jessica in her tracks. The girl was far away, that much was clear, yet there was some eerie quality to each heartbreaking sob. Jessica sat rooted to the spot, listening as the crying quietened to a whisper "Jessica!" The girl said "Jessica! I need you!
"Where are you? Who are you? How do you know my name?" Jessica asked looking around her. Despite the situation she felt calm fill her from head to toe.
"I'm right in front of you Jessica" The voice said "My name is Echo, I am a friend of your sister, do not worry"
Jessica lifted her head and stared at the crystal Echo "But you're a crystal"
Echo let out a haughty laugh "That doesn't mean we're dead... We were L'Cie... Granted eternal life in an etenal slumber. Our soul lives on"
Jessica remained silent, her heart beating faster with hope. "We will remain like this for hundreds of years... My mother was one. She's at least 300 years old"
"You said you needed me?" Jessica asked hopefully. Echo could be the one way ticket of seeing her sister alive again.
"I did" Echo sounded sad "Will you follow me to the ends of the Earth?"
"Yes!" Jessica replied without hesitation. It was the truth for she knew, deep down, she would be rewarded in the end
"Thank You" Echo whispered before a blinding light shone from her crystal prison. Slowly Jessica's mind figured out what was happening. Echo was awakening.
When the light faded. Echo stood clad in red. The tunic she now wore was a blood red with a cream sash acting as a belt. Her legs were being kept warm by a pair of white tights. Suddenly she dropped to the floor, she had forced herself to wake but it had weakened her considerably. Jessica crawled over to the unconsious girl "Echo?"
"Jessie" Another voice whispered tenderly.
Jessica spun around searching for the source of the voice "Felicity? Is that you?"
"Jessie... protect Echo... from a world... where she is going to be hunted down..." The voice faded along with the wind.
"Fel?! Come back Fel! I need you" The young girl scrambled to her feet "Don't leave me Felicity!"
The voice spoke again, only weaker and sounding further away "I'll aways be in your heart Jessie... Look for me there..."
Jessica looked down at the red head on the floor. There was only one person who could help her...

Sage glared at the computer screen. The loading bar was crawling across the screen at a snails pace as she willed it to hurry up. If a government official walked in and saw her hacking into the top secret plans of the Primarch then who knows what would happen. Death would be probable.
She slammed her fist into the monitor as the word ERROR appeared in bold writing. "Damn the stupid government" she growled at the remains of her computer. For months she had been trying to hack into the Primarch's intel. She wanted to find hard evidence on the surprising turn of events that happened after the Invasion.
"Sage? Are you up there?" Her mother called from the bottom of the stairs "Jessica, from school, is here to see you". The name caught Sage's attention. It was a well known fact that one of the crystal figure in the town square was Jessica's older sister. What could she want with her?
"Coming Mom!" Sage replied. She would just have to deal with her computer some other time. On her way out she caught sight of her reflection in the mirror. Green eyes stared back at her as she passed and her long strawberry blonde hair cascaded down her back. Sage was particularly proud of her ivy green highlights, shame her parents seemed to hate them.
Jessica was waiting in the lounge with girl who looked like the human version of another of the crystal statues. "Sage! You need to help me. Please... I need you"
Sage looked at the girl sleeping on the couch and back up at Jessica. "Tell me everything" she said with a sigh...
