"Well, this is just perfect."

Espresso huffed, crossing his arms.

He and his "comrade", Madeleine, had been picked to embark on an expedition with the other, both being elected by their respective kingdoms. Unfortunately, they had only known each other from a previous quest, which didn't go over well for them.

"Urgh- Out of everyone they could've picked, it had to be YOU?"

The paladin responded, an equal hint of venom in his words.

"I do not understand your disdain for me in the first place. I merely stated that light magic was a waste of time."

Espresso took a sip of his coffee.

"Which it is."

They both sat in a village diner, making the most of the free time they had before they had to embark. It was their designated meetup spot in the first place, after all. It had not been time for the expedition yet, so they had both decided to stop there to get some food.

"If dark magic is so practical, why aren't you a high ranking knight like me? Did the divine choose you?" Madeleine raised an eyebrow in question.

Espresso rolled his eyes.

"I'd prefer to work alone, rather than being part of a system."

Madeleine couldn't help but laugh. "Why would you work alone? Isn't it nice to have people praise you? To be recognized for your achievements?"

"Maybe that's why your ego is so large."

Espresso sipped his coffee again, gazing at the menu.

"Two of us in a diner, huh?" Madeleine tried to clear the awkward tension. "Hah! That's like one of those cheesy places couples go to in the movies!" He laughed to himself.

Espresso slammed his hand on the table. "If you ever think I'd go on a date with some light-magic-using peasant, you're mistaken!" He finished his coffee, before angrily getting up.

"You can handle the rest of this yourself!"

Without saying another word, Espresso walked out of the cafe.

Madeleine followed behind, but not before thinking to himself for a moment. He let out an exhausted sigh.

"Are all dark magic users like this..?" He muttered, as he followed behind Espresso.

Eventually, they both neared a bench that sat alone in a forest that they had been assigned to search. As expected,, Espresso sat there, burying his face in his hands. Madeleine eventually stepped out from the brush, seeming a little worried.

"I apologize for my outburst." Espresso looked up at him, seeming remorseful for what he had said.

"No no, it's okay, really." Madeleine sat next to Espresso, smiling a little.

"Sometimes we just...say things in the heat of the moment." He gave an understanding nod. "I understand, I do the same thing sometimes."
