My theory begins with one of the first multi-celled organisms ever discovered. A scientist by the name of Dominus Domestar brought to light a riverbed with strange markings as seen below

Rival scientists believed this to be an alien language, but upon further microscopic inspection, was found out to be a petrified colony of some of the earliest discovered complex life. Why these organisms were arranged in such unique patterns is still a mystery. After working as Dominus' assistant during this project, we agreed on a name. Rivers. A simple name I know, but it was in honor of life starting in the ocean before land.

Rivers is believed to have had a simple mouth, two eyes, and a thin, small tail for basic movement. As with all starting organisms, Rivers most likely had a rounded body for a decent amount of control over its small movements. However, this wouldn't last long. There was an evolutionary race at hand.

Once I and Dominus went back to the riverbed, a strange story began to unfold. Nearby Rivers' original location, there were various organisms cemented into the sedimentary rock. Due to low volcanic activity near water, most of the evidence survived after millions of years. We can only assume that layers of dirt and rock were added atop the base until it began to compress and seal away these Protazoic imprints.

One nearby imprint had an incredibly similar genetic blueprint to Rivers', which can only mean that these two were related, unlike the other foreign signatures. This newer species had no tail and focused purely on singular directional movement at high speeds. Containing three "jet-like" organs near the abdomen that let in and pumped out water at high velocity to propel itself through the water. This newfound speed came at a cost. Rivers only had one simple eye, though all it needed to find food was a simple hint of movement. Due to the larger size of its mouth, we can assume that this creature developed a sense of "Vibrational awareness", allowing it to locate prey moving through the water. From there, it charges into its prey at full speed, clamping its jaws on the unlucky victim upon contact. It is unknown how they tell each other from prey.
