Ginko had yet another  crime in his hands, although this one was a more different and "clean" one; the body of Mr. Bortolo was found in his bedroom by his wife, Amanda, when she woke up. There was no blood, no trace of a physical attack and apparently there wasn’t even a weapon. The victim was a rich man, no wonder his bedroom was so big and well decorated, thought Ginko to himself. In a corner of the room. Mr. Bortolo's wife sat on a big red armchair, when ginko came close to her; “tell me more about your husband, Miss… Bortolo, am I right?”.
Nothing of what she told him was really important, he was a normal man who made his fortune by starting a small business , later got married and had two sons, in order of birth Arnold and Kenny. Both of them used to argue quite a lot with their dad, which led to their separation. In the late 90s his financial situation allowed him to hire a butler, Austin was his name. The first time Ginko saw him he thought to himself: “Why is he so pale… Must be some sort of disease… His eyes look damn creepy to me…”.  How could you blame him, Austin was tall, barely had any muscles, his eyes were almost white; this was most probably due to his age, 75 years old, as he told Ginko before, and to make it even worse he was  as pale as his boss in the other room. Very creepy.
Almost three hours have passed, and Ginko was stillin the room, wondering how about what could have happened and most importantly why his wife didn’t hear anything; something felt off, he could feel it very well; this was the first time he’s seen something like this: “should I be shocked by what I’m seeing? No, I shouldn’t, I see corpses almost every day and this is surely not the worst thing I’ve seen in 30 years working as a private detective… But something still makes me uncomfortable about him…” he was soon interrupted by the dead man’s wife, who came to get her expensive watch, and her two sons where right at her back, looking at their father’s dead body on the bed. Ginko couldn’t let them go like that, he had to question those two too and so he did. Apparently they both were at the club that night: “makes sense to me, one of them still stinks of alcohol and the younger one clearly can’t  stay on his feet by his own right now, poor boy” thought Ginko, “but they also have a valid motive, as I know they had an argument with their dad…”. Of the two of them the eldest one didn’t really look shocked or sad, but Ginko didn’t really care: “I guess he really didn’t care abouthis dad anymore, so heartless”. When it came the turn of the butler Ginko could’t stand on his feet and continuously needed to take breaks. Apart from his appearance he stank of naphthalene terribly, which made Ginko feel dizzy.
In three days of investigation Ginko wasn’t able to find any clue on what could have happened that night. Not even a finger print, not a hair, nothing. He was going to stop his investigations for that day when he suddenly found something he didn’t notice the other times; a small, stinky piece of black cloth, the same cloth of the butler uniform. “This must be a coincidence, he works here, he probably got stuck in something and this piece ripped off…” thought Ginko for himself “But here on the bed? Never heard of someone who got stuck on the bed…”. But it looks like getting interrupted mid-thinking was a normal thing back then, because a police officer, Zeke was his name, zoomed into the room screaming incomprehensible words. After a long chat with him came out that Mr. Bortolo’s wife was found dead in one of the multiple houses she inherited from her husband. It could have just been a coincidence, probably she was so stressed about being accused of murder that she couldn’t handle it and killed herself, but Ginko didn’t think of it that way and became more suspicious than before. Something wasn’t right, he felt that, and that something took away his sleep, making it harder to think sharply. This time only the youngest of the two sons, Kenny, showed up, and at the question “where’s your brother” he answered with a simple, yet insecure “I wish I knew, detective”.
When he got back to the main mansion he found the eldest son sleeping on the couch. He didn't look like he was breathing, so Ginko said out loudly, almost screaming “oh wow! Another dead family member, what a surprise!” but the son answered back with “I’m not dead you idiot, I’m just sleeping, relax”. Was Ginko surprised to see him alive? No, definitely not, but the idea of him being still alive got him upset.
Days  went on and for Ginko was thinking of giving up, too weak to go on investigating on that case, he thought about leaving his job once forever, but suddenly something caught his sight. The eldest brother left his phone on a little desk near the main entrance of the mansion.” Why not, let’s check it, my job is over here, I got nothing to lose” said Ginko to himself. Little did he know that in that phone there was the key to the mystery, the long awaited solution that would have ended everything. It made sense, the black piece of cloth, now this phone, everything finally made sense.
The next day Ginko called the two sons and the butler in the same room where everything started, and started to explain them his thoughts about it.
Tension became so bad you could even feel it penetrating into your skin and then again into your bones, eating you from the inside, like a worm would do with an apple.
After all the explanations, the butler, in complete anger, finally confessed. The eldest son hired him to kill Mr. Bortolo in exchange of a small, but still big enough, part of the legacy, the only problem was that the mother was the first to inherit everything, Austin refused to kill her, one of the only person in that house that relly treated him like a human and not a monster.
The eldest son tried to escape, but unfortunately for him, shooting at someone who committed a crime was more than legal in the small city of Clerville, and he soon found himself on the ground with  a bleeding foot, unable to stand or walk, and most importantly, unable to escape from Ginko’s anger.
