The first day back to school after a long and eventful summer is always the worst, and to top it all off it was the first day of junior year. Lucky me! Today should be exciting because we have a new student on campus who is apparently supposed to be amazing at football. His name is Spencer James. I am one of the class officers so it is my job to be in charge of touring new students around.
I threw on a black crop top and a mini skirt. I curled my long blonde hair that was even light from the recent summer sun. I put on some gold jewelry to go with it and my lucky gold locket I got from my grandmother, and I have had it for as long as I can remember. I grabbed my purse and headed downstairs for some breakfast.

"Good Morning sweetheart" my mother called from the kitchen as I made my way down the stairs. "Happy first day honey" Dad said as he sipped his morning coffee. "Hey guys! I really gotta run, I am in charge of leading the new kid around school" as I was scrambling around throwing a granola bar and some snacks in my bag. "Oh yeah, Spencer James right? He is going to be a great addition to the team. Us boosters are really excited" Dad stated. My parents Heather and Mike were boosters for the school and football team. Basically the boosters helped provide money for the team and events being held. Football is big at Beverly and now that the time of the year is finally here, they couldn't be more excited.
"Alright well love you guys, I have cheer after school today so I won't be home till later tonight" I stated as I made my way out of the house. "Honey, don't forget to look out for Liv" my mother called out to me.
Wow way to put a damper on the start of the day. Olivia Baker has been my best friend for as long as I can remember. We all hung out in this huge friend group, we all had so much fun together at parties. Well, last spring, Olivia overdosed and it was the worst thing I ever experienced. Ever since, she has distanced herself from our friend group, including me and it hasn't been the same since. Yeah of course she is my best friend, you can just tell that it isn't the same as it used to be.
While Olivia has been away getting the help she needed, it was just me and Jordan and all of our friends. We have definitely gotten closer and to admit I do have some feelings for him, but it just isn't the best idea and could ruin things between me and Olivia. Plus he always has girls falling all over him left and right.
I pulled up to the school and made my way to the office where I met Spencer James.
"Hey oh my god, I am so so sorry I was running late" I said to the boy sitting in the office. "Hey, really it ain't no problem, I'm Spencer James. And you?" he said reaching his hand out. "Katie. Katie Lynch" I smiled at him. I then took him on a tour of the whole school as we made small talk.
