DURING THE ARCHON WAR
"in another life, would you marry me?"

She was a peculiar thing.

An odd creature with an odd personality. She didn't know when to give up, and when to not. Simply put, the word surrender or give up was not in her vocabulary.

A creature who was neither a mortal, nor an immortal. Strangely enough, she reminded him of butterflies. The ones that fly freely above the ground, with their wings spread like an eagle taking flight. The kind of butterflies that aim to reach the sky, but their tiny little wings couldn't bring them to it. She was that one butterfly he secretly wanted to keep.

But then again, butterflies aren't meant to be kept.

Truly, she was a peculiar thing. While other butterflies would freely roam the very world they lived in, she clipped her wings down to the ground and stayed with an immortal who would never reciprocate her love. An immortal, who was a coward in terms of feelings.

A beautiful feeling that he did not want to feel.

"Hey," She says to him, looking up at the blue sky that was filled with dark clouds. "It looks like it's going to rain soon."

He doesn't spare her a glance.

She reaches out her hand to the sky, "I wonder how it feels to touch the sky." Then, she closes her hand. "Do you wonder about it too, Xiao?"

"I do not wish to waste my time on such trivial matters unlike you." Was all he said.

"It's not a trivial matter." She defends. "Well, at least it isn't for me. The vast world we live in... are you not curious about it?"

He slightly glances at her, his face remained stoic as his piercing eyes met her soft ones. She smiles at him, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

A displeased expression found its way onto his usual, unexpressive face. "You are an odd creature."

She laughs at his statement, clasping her hands together. "We've known each other for so long already, and yet, you are still not used to me."

He looks away. "One cannot be used to someone like you." And indeed, it was true. The girl was full of surprises, and Xiao did not know whether he found her amusing or annoying. Perhaps, it was both. But then again, he could be wrong.

"Someone like me?"

He doesn't answer.

"Ah, I apologize for asking such a hard question. Then, I shall ask you another one." She says, wiggling her index finger. He sighs, looking away from the girl, as he knew exactly what her question was.
