gave him. It hit him hard that he stood up almost immediately towering high
above her, his face red with anger and his eyes were so fierce had it been a
knife it would cut through her bones.
But Alexandria was far too angry herself, she
stood chin up stretching her neck as high as it can go and spoke "Yes you are!
And you're angry because it's true! You were always sulking about the past
blaming anything and everyone around you doing nothing instead of facing your
problem and dealing with it as a man!" stomping her feet forcefully that it
hurt a little, she ran to the main entrance of the house banging the door
behind her.
Roy
sat back to the ground covering his face with both hands, his shoulders
shaking; "oh" he groaned his chest tightening he had to gasp for air to fill
his lungs. He just sat there for what seemed forever. When he was calm, he
stood and headed to the house closing the door carefully so as not to wake the
people in the house sleeping, it was already past midnight on the clock hanging
by the wall. He started for the stairs to his bedroom but he stopped glancing
at Alexandria's door. There was a strip of light coming from the inside, he
pressed his ears on it but the door moved a little, she left her door unlocked.
He peeped inside and saw her curled up against the headboard hugging her brown
teddy, her knees up her chin and her head on the wall sleeping. She was wearing
her usual sleeveless white cotton night dress; it was one of her rituals to bed
as a child, wearing a white dress. He found it rather strange teasing her that
she looked like ghost with it. He smiled remembering how she bit on his arms then,
tsk! How easily he forgets his anger when it comes to her. The wind is blowing her beige, yellow flowered
curtain; Roy decided to close the windows fearing she might catch colds knowing
that the girl had a weak immunity to cold weather since birth. Leaning on, he
pulled the blanket from one end of the bed and wrapped it around her tucking it
under her chin. She stirred a little so he patted her shoulders gently. He sat
on the bed beside her and arranged the pillows at her back pulling one to place
under her head. "Hmmm" she mumbled on her sleep turning her head, cheeks
pressed against the warmth of his palm. He didn't move for a while afraid he
might wake her up. He observed the girl sleeping, the brown stuff toy still
looks new, it was a gift he gave her during his first visit, she was six years
old then, she named the teddy bear after him. He gazed longingly at her
beautiful face; she had grown up fast while he was away. His little sweet
cherub is gone. This sleeping girl is taller now head reaching almost up his
chin when she stands. His body went rigid as he remembered her at the balcony
after her performance. Her back on him white and dewy, her silk gown gathered
at the small of her waist that could fit in one hand. He shook his head
vigorously wanting to shake off her image out of his mind and to vanish this
unwanted feeling that tortured his heart. This world is so unfair for him, how
did his love for her as a child changed into something unthinkable. She was
just a child! He insisted on his mind closing his eyes pounding his head. He
had to get out of this room, he thought looking towards the door, and then
Alexandria opened her eyes.
"Roy?" she sat up on her bed.
"You left your door opened, I came in to
close the windows." he said not bothering to look at her.
"Thanks"
"Don't mention it, now go back to sleep" he
stood up to leave.
"Wait" she reached for his arm, "I'm sorry,
what I said back there, it's not true..."
"But it is..." he said his back still on her
bowing his head in defeat.
"Oh Roy no..." shaking her head in protest as
she lowered her feet on the floor touching his arms. Roy turned to face
Alexandria now sitting on the bed looking up on him.
"Please..." he begged her, 'I can't talk
about this right now." he looked away instantly realizing that she was wearing
nothing beneath that thin cloth of her dress when he noticed those small nubs
at the swell of her chest, it was a mistake facing her like that.
"But I can't take it when you're angry at
me.' She said standing up closely to him.
Roy's muscles tightened as he smelled the
sweet scent of her body so close to him now. He was too confused not knowing
what to do. His heart beating wildly and the room seemed blazing with fire.
