Chapter 3 - Unexpected Turn of Events

    The ship had been sailing for two days now, and they were coming up to Tortuga on their starboard side when Gaara realized where the man that was sailing was leading them. 

    “Hey! Who’s manning my ship?” Gaara asked one of the sailors furiously. 

    “Well, sir, it’s your brother… He said something about mermai-” The sailor said, right as Gaara pushed past him and went right up to Kankuro who was at the helm of the ship steering.

    “What in the seven seas do you think you’re doing?? How’d you even get onto my ship, you idiot? You can’t sail worth a crap! You know you’re sailing us through mermaid-infested waters, right?? Mermaids! I know you like fairy tales, but these mermaids will destroy our ship!” Gaara explained.

    “Well we’re already here…” Kankuro mumbled as they rolled up to one of the sides of Tortuga that was mainly abandoned. 

    “Turn us around right now. That’s an order,” Gaara exclaimed, turning and walking down the stairs, but then getting stopped by a lump of seaweed flying and landing right in front of him, “All hands on deck! We’re being attacked!” 

    “Gaara! Look out!” Matsuri shouted, running towards Gaara, but it was too late. 

    Gaara struggled to pull the sticky seaweed off, but it wouldn’t work. He felt the mermaid on the other end tugging to try to get him in the water. Gaara might’ve been the commodore, but he’s been afraid of the water since he was a little lad. He barely even knows how to doggy paddle. Gaara held on to the mast that stood in the middle of the ship, then the mermaid gave one final tug and Gaara flew back and into the dark cold depths of the sea. 

    For only a second, he heard the singing of mermaids around him, singing the tune, ‘My Jolly Sailor Bold’ he learned when he was a child. Gaara was in fact still a child mentally, he just refused to act like that in front of anyone else.

    “My… Jolly... Sailor bold…..,” He muttered, taking in profuse amounts of water. He passed out and felt the mermaids scratching at his sides and his arms. He couldn’t move, so he just sank lower and lower into the depths.
