Chapter 1

The summer air felt nice around my cheeks. "No worries, no stress," I told myself and sigh, "No school, no homework due, and no bossy teachers." The sun warmed me as I laid in the grass, millions of tiny flowers danced around me in the wind. My iPod was worn out, of course in my new household I had to earn the money myself. My iPod was a touch which I got from my old parents, (yes I consider my aunt and uncle my parents now, considering my others hated me) but they felt like doing something nice for me once.

My earphones, well they are new. Except they cost two dollars from the dollar store. Yes, I work, I even do chores around the house, but when you work at McDonalds I wouldn't call it 'a nice job'. All I get is nine bucks an hour. I work about five hours so I get forty-five dollars a day. Sometimes, I wonder how better my life is here in Florida, then in Texas. Then maybe

my family and I could get along, Mom, Dad, and Dexter, my little brother.

I search around in my jeans pocket looking for my phone. Two texts. The first text was from my friend Sammy. She loves me but I need to move on, I've been told I can never go back to Texas, but I don't know why. Why can't she understand that? "Maybe for the same reason you don't" my inner voice tells me with a smart tone. Right at that moment I want to slap my inner voice but I know it's right, I don't understand..

The cars pass on by on the road behind me. That's one thing I would change about this world. Nature is useless to the goverment now. Look back in time. It was all we had! Now, we have phones, iPods etc! Ok, so I'm guilty of those, but I could live without them. I mean we have radios... Just then my new pup runs and jumps on my stomach. "Ow!" I yell and he cocks his head to the side and looks adorable. "Hey puppy!" I say and ruffle his ears.

He barks and I smile. "Whatcha been up to Henry?" he barks twice again like we are really having a conversation so I smile and nod my head like I know what he is saying. "Well, we better get going." I tell Henry. We got Henry's name from my great, great, great, great, great grandpa. Plus, he just looks like an old man's name would fit him. He is a mix of millions of terriers and kind of looks like some jack russel, schnauzer thing.

Henry whines and sits on his but resisting, right now he is still small but I hope he gets at least a little bigger. I put my hand on my hip and raise my eyebrow and he seems as if he is crying. Henry has always loved the field. Sighing, I sit back down and decide to read the next text after Henry is long gone, consumed in playtime. The text read was from auntie whose name is Amie. The text read: "Going for a jog so don't freak when you get home and I'm not there, ;). Love you Marles." Closing my phone I realise something doesn't feel right, I feel like someone is behind me. "A car just passed it's probably that." I say outloud to myself and shut my eyes as I lay back down in the grass. Suddenly, I feel someone's breath on my face...
