Apple pie and midnight trips to the corner store -Kenma x reader-

Start from the beginning

“But you didn’t have to buy me all this extra stuff, I would’ve let you have it either way, I just wanted to try a new flavour…” Kenma returned back as you took out everything you placed inside the basket.

“It’s fine by me, think of it as payback for all that help you’ve given me,” you sent a sweet-close-eyed-smile, causing the boy to start blushing slightly, the boy looking away from you.

The cashier rang up your stuff, amounting to 4,141.18 ¥, which made Kenma sigh in succumbent as you paid for all the items, separating your own things from Kenma’s. You gave him a heart-melting smile. Walking out into the cool-night air, a shiver went down your spine.

“Well, I guess this is where we part, I’ll see you sleep deprived at school tomorrow,” you tiredly waved at the boy with black hair starting to walk in the other direction, before you felt a hand wrap around your own, dragging you along in the direction you were going. You saw that a blushing Kenma Kozume was pulling you in the direction of your house.

“I’m taking you home, I don’t trust that there won’t be someone who could hurt you lurking around to attack you,” Kenma had his head forward, a blank expression masking his internal panic, and not glancing at the person near him because he knew if he did he might melt into a puddle on the floor.

“W-W-Wait! You don’t know where I live, Kozume! I- umm,” you stuttered at the boy, trying to put together a comprehensible sentence and excuse.

“I do, we did those projects together last term,” Kenma retorted blankly, holding you by the arm, “your mom might kill you if I didn’t take you home.”

“Uhhh…. Fine… you can take me home, it’s probably safer anyways,” you gave in, letting him pull you towards your home.

It had been a few months since the Midnight Rendezvous with Kenma, you successfully had gotten your project done, landing you an A, a messed up sleep schedule, and a new friend, but not before your mom caught you coming inside through your bedroom window. She sat there on your bed, waiting for you to come home, but when she saw that Kenma was with you, she let you off the hook, making you grateful that you accepted his not-so-optional-choice.

Kenma started finding you at lunch, sitting with you on the rooftop and eating lunch together, a quiet, peaceful silence while you were eating, and mostly one-sided conversations as he played his games, listening to you talk. It was a change for the boy, usually sitting with Kuroo and some others, but it was a good change. Kuroo was curious about where he was going during lunch but Kenma kept his lips shut no matter what.

After Kenma kept disappearing, Kuroo had finally given into his urge to know what Kenma was doing, so he followed him after class, seeing him head up to the rooftop with another person. Curiosity, once again, got the best of the rooster-like second year, he followed Kenma to a corner of the rooftop, hiding behind a wall watching him sit down with the person who was walking with him.

“Hey Kenma, how are you doing today?”

“Pretty good I guess.”

“That’s good! My sleep schedule is finally normal again, I guess holding off on projects so often isn’t the best idea.”

“Yeah, it really isn’t good for your mental health. That stress could be damaging.”

“I know, I just want to get those done and not get any bad grades since finals are finally over with.”
