waves insurmountable
crashing over me
salt and water fills my lungs
until I can't breathe
i'm in the hurricane.open-mouthed and
eyes pressed closed
the moon has no mercy
in this soulful cyclone
i'm in the hurricane.memories and visions
illuminating my eyelids
seagulls scream at the sight
of my drowning so putrid
i'm in the hurricane.feet floating with no
chance of a graze
against anything that
could hold my soul's flames
i'm in the hurricane.been here before
such a long time ago
the shore fooled me once
now twice i'm pulled below
i'm in the hurricane.took the chance to swim
rather than to fly
now i'm tussled in the ocean depths
strangled by the riptide
i'm the hurricane.
