Dodie - don't quite belong

   I watched butterflies and birds.
I grew lillies and ferns.
I saw shows and concerts.
I watched movies at dawn and cried to the sad ones.
I counted stars and looked out of windows.
I greeted joggers and workers.
I counted sheep and watched the ceiling till it stared back.
Did a mini fashion show in my room.
Faked scenarios in my head and felt beautiful for milliseconds at a time.
I watched the clock cheerlead until it did splits twice.
I played games with the ghosts in my head.
I acted out scenes and felt cold at my mental loneliness.
I missed vital signs and watched the sky change clothes until it was completely naked,
Till it covered a sparkly blanket that winked at me if I was crazy enough.
I screamed at lorries and trucks and scrolled through archives.
I wrote poems that meant nothing.
Made songs for old crushes.
Sleep drifted through the wind till the sun stole it away.
My brain laughed and bit its fingers.
Not tonight again.
I wonder what tomorrow brings me.
I've not been able to steal my sleep from the darkness in my cupboard.
If only I could steal it from my broken memory.
I'll wait again.
Like I always do.
