Heyyyy guys. I know. I haven't posted in a while. This time I have an excuse. I just started high school (yeah I'm a freshman. Lucky me) and it's been just an absolute whirlwind for me. Basically all of my friends are gone and I think I'm slipping into a depression BUT that's not important. I still have Doctor Who. So. I'm sorry for not being a good author and taking so long to post this chapter.

So a lot of you have been asking me who/what Echo is. And my answer to you is.... Just be patient. It will alllll be explained near the end of the book. What I will say, though, is that she isn't exactly human. Now you can try your hardest to figure out what she is, but believe me, you're not going to get it. ;)

Anyway. Chapter 18. Long chapter. But worth the wait. Enjoy!

Chapter 18:

Starship E.A.R.T.H

The TARDIS materialized with its typical wheezing and groaning, but luckily this landing was much smoother than last time's. Once the jolting and shaking had ended and silence had fallen, the Doctor and I stood unmoving at the console. We were both considerably out of breath from the constant struggle of holding onto something and not getting flung all over the place. I was slightly hunched over the controls, staring down at all the levers and flashing lights while trying desperately to catch my breath.

I glanced over at the Doctor, who was in a position similar to mine with both of his palms pressed on the control panel to keep himself up. We seemed to have looked over at each other at the same time, because he smiled when our eyes met.

"There could be anything out there," he said, his words almost inaudible but not lacking any excitement or fear. "Anything at all. A planet. A sun. An ocean. A spaceship."

"Aliens," I added, trying to hide the wide grin that was just starting to form around my lips. "We could simply step outside and be surrounded by aliens. Aliens with guns. We could just step outside and be killed within an instant."

"You're right. We could." he said, obvious glee filling his tone. I nodded, and we stood in absolute silence for a few minutes. And in those few agonizing minutes, my stomach began fluttering and I could feel the adrenaline rushing through my veins. Traveling with him was a thrill and a half. So much so that part of me just wanted to bolt to the doors and fling them open to see what was beyond this little blue box.

And that's what I did. I bolted to the door. And in the same instant, the Doctor did the same. We were like one mind in perfect sync. I looked at him and he looked at me as we reached the entrance. Both of us grabbed onto the handle of our respective door and tugged them open at the same time, taking a half step back to move out of the door's swinging path. While opening the door, I had closed my eyes tight to make the suspense last longer. I assumed the Doctor hadn't, because I could hear him whistle with impressment and take a step or two out of the TARDIS. I cracked one eye open, then the other, until our mysterious landing spot was fully revealed.

And where we landed was perfect.

Perfect. Just absolutely perfect. And I don't mean it was exactly where I wanted to go, or that I thought it was astounding and breathtaking. It was just...flawless. Blemish-free. Perfect little pastel houses full of perfect little smiling people lined on perfect little spotless street. It reminded me of such a stereotypical rich housing complex; ones that you see on the home and garden network with gorgeous, flower-lined cul-de-sacs and perfectly trimmed green lawns.

"It's..." I managed, taking a few numb steps out of the time machine and closing the door behind me. "It's just...it looks...I mean, honestly...it feels so..."
