I am laying in my bed with a blissful half asleep state of mind when I hear my mother's voice travel to me from downstairs
"Emma get your ass down here"
I groan and roll onto my back as I remember what day today is..
My first day at college.
This day had me nervously anticipating but also eagerly excited for many months. I've been studying and preparing any chance i got for a while now, but I still feel as if I am not at all ready for this.
"Emma!!" she calls again
"I'm up now" I yell and lazily roll out of my bed wishing I could sleep for a few more years.
I hear cabinets opening and closing and I know she must be preparing me breakfast, which is a first in years since my mother taught me to be independent from a young age. Usually I would always be the one making myself breakfast.
Every step I take to the washroom has the knot in my stomach growing and I hope a hot steaming shower could loosen my tense muscles.
After what seemed like a very long time in the shower I quickly go put on something to wear for the drive and head downstairs.
"Ah here she is" my mother says cheerfully
As I thought, I see my mother flipping pancakes on the stove, but they appear to be burnt almost to the point where they're inedible. She notices me glaring at them and sighs
"This is another reason why I don't make you breakfast" she says
"At least you tried. Here let me use the batter and make new ones myself" I say while laughing
"Don't forget Matt is coming here soon since he will be taking you to NSC along with him"
"Oh my god, I almost forgot" i say
Matt has been my best friend ever since I can remember. He understands me more then anyone else and he is literally one of the best people in my life and I love him. I'm also so happy we will be going to the same college because I can't imagine having to start out alone there. I just wish he could be my roommate there, but obviously that's not possible so I just hope I have a decent girl in my room.
The door bell rings, cutting through my thoughts and I see Matt stepping inside with his gorgeous smile and bed swept hair
"Hey college girl" he says and I hurry to him and hug him
"I'm so happy you're coming with me" i muffle against his sweater
"Me too" he says and hugs tighter
"Alright young adults come here for some breakfast because you're not going anywhere hungry" my mother says with a hand on her hip
We smile at each other and sit down to eat my perfectly made pancakes.
As we eat my father comes into the kitchen with his suit and briefcase in hand. He looks like a true business man. He comes up to my mom, who is also eating and kisses her multiple of times quickly.
I aspire to have my mother's life one day I think even if it looks like it's out of a movie. She seems happy and everything in her life is perfect; a child, a house, a good job, and a handsome hardworking husband who loves her.
He sits down to do his usual before work, which is to drink coffee my mother has made for him and read the newspaper.
I'm almost finished my pancakes, only one to go. I just can't find the room in my stomach to put it in. I look over at Matt's plate and his plate is spotless, he must really like my pancakes..
I nudge his arm and look at him with a big pout and draw his attention to my lonely pancake. He laughs to himself quietly and picks it up and then drops it onto his plate and I do a big smile and mouth out 'thank you'.
"Well well well.." My father mumbles at the newspaper
"What is it darling?" My mother questions as she bends over to look at what he is reading
"These little young bastards" he says raising his voice a little
I look at Matt with a questioning glare but he seems to know who my father is talking about.
"What's wrong?" I ask wondering why I seem to be the only one drawing out blanks
"The sk5 Emma. Police have now determined that all this chaos in our city is because of them. Haven't you heard about all the murders and crime that have been happening in the city?" He asks
In fact I have heard about the countless murders and terrorizing that has been happening. It's not hard to miss because as you walk in the streets of Seattle you can almost feel the eerie atmosphere lingering in the air. I have also heard people speaking about this sk5. They say they are this group of 5 young attractive males who have literally called themselves the soulless killers. With what they have been doing they really are soulless and should be caught.
"Yes of course I have. I'm sorry it must be this whole first day in college that has made me forget about everything else in the world." I say feeling slightly embarrassing for not realizing what my father was talking about
"Aw it's okay, just don't get too worked up over the thought of college. It's not so bad." My mother says and rubs her hand on my shoulder
"Speaking of college its already 9am" Matt says looking at the clock on the wall across from us
"Oh shit" my mother blares out and Matt and I quickly rush and get our things
I say my goodbyes to my parents and we go outside to Matt's waiting car
"I'll put your bags in the car it's okay" he says
"Thanks" I smile at him and sit in the front seat trying to push away the bad feeling I have creeping in on what is to come...
