Chapter 12- Lost
Anabelle’s P.O.V.
“Please tell me that my dad’s going to be okay,” I sobbed as the doctors rushed to my dad’s room.
“I’m sorry, honey. We can’t promise you anything, but we’ll do our best,” one nurse said as they shut the door.
Mom and Aunt Jenna fell on their knees, sobbing. Tears spilled from my eyes as quiet sobs left my mouth. Nate went to my side and tried calming me down.
“Your dad’s going to be okay. Believe me,” Nate murmured.
“I hope so. I can’t lose him. I don’t think I can handle it if I do,” I cried softly.
“You won’t lose him.”
“How sure are you?”
“I’m sure that he’s safe in the doctors’ hands.”
“You trust them that much?”
Nate nodded.
“Even if they weren’t able to save Mum,” he whispered, probably thinking that I wouldn’t hear it.
I looked at him with curiosity, but he just looked away. Shouts were suddenly heard which stopped me from asking Nate on what he meant by what he said.
“We’re losing him! Get the paddles and gel now!”
“1! 2! 3! CLEAR! One more… 1! 2! 3! CLEAR!”
Aunt Jenna and Mom were sobbing as we heard their frantic shouting. I just stared at my dad’s room with tears silently rolling down my cheeks. Mom and Aunt Jenna held onto each other when silence started to creep in.
“What happened to Dad? He can’t leave me. He can’t leave us!” I whispered as I started to sink on the ground.
The doctors and nurses came out one by one and gave Mom, Aunt Jenna, and I sympathetic smiles as they each passed by us. I immediately knew what happened. They lost him.
“We’re sorry to tell you that Mr. Devin Simmons has passed already. You may go to his room to say your last goodbyes. Again, we’re sorry. We did our best,” the last doctor who passed by us said.
Mom and Aunt Jenna stood up and went to Dad’s room immediately while I just stayed on the ground. No tears left my eyes. Too much tears have been shed within a span of just one day; I probably ran out of tears already. I just stared on the ground with an empty face.
I just realized that I lost two of the most important people in my life. They say that losing a loved one makes you stronger in the future, but how can I become stronger when I know that I will barely survive these two deaths? That is if I even survive.
