Happy Mother's Day Mom!

A Collection of Poems by Evelyn Laferriere

Mother's Day Limerick

Mother sat watching her children at play

Laughing along as they ran through the day

But now they're much older

And suddenly bolder

And off to find their own way.

Another One

Walking along the breezy beach

Sunshine, sand, and birds all preach

Of memories past

And new days at last

Fun futures almost in reach

Sonnet for Mother

Our mother was there when we were but one

Giggling, laughing, and crying together

When our young lives had only just begun

She made our worries light as a feather

Through ABCs, and ten fingers and toes

We learned, we played, oh how quickly we grew

School, not just identifying our nose

She said we'd learn more than she ever knew

And then we were off, out in the big world

But mother was there with arms open wide

There if plans changed, if directions swirled

Pulling us home like the outgoing tide

Mother is there, our rock and foundation

"I told you so," her favorite quotation.

Another Sonnet for Mother

Stepping stones with colorful jewels pressed in

Macaroni necklaces made by hand

Kids' silly gifts with happy love therein

Silly, but never hard to understand

What can we ever, in our lives, give back

For those very lives, and love, that she gives

With a mother, in love we never lack

It shapes our lives, stories, and narratives

A mother's love has made us who we are

Guided our footsteps, and will forever

A mother's love is the best kind of scar

And will guide us through fair and foul weather

She will be there, past present and future

The lessons of life's first and best tutor.

Haiku

Moms are life's best gift

Honestly, moms rule the world

Inspiring their kids

Mom

When our lives had just begun

On a day of scorching sun

She said, "oh twins will be fun"

Driving around, always on the run

Then there were three

Oh boy, what glee

"Mom, brother skinned his knee!"

"Don't you dare climb that tree!"

Never getting a moment of peace

But someday you'll miss us, a little at least

Childhood gone, let go, released

But the craziness will never cease.
